Competition for the HG-1
« on: 31/01/2017, 07:06 PM »
Looks like the HG-1 has some competition from a Dutch mob who are looking to sell a new range of hand grinders much cheaper than the HG.

Only really accessible via Facebook, their page is https://www.facebook.com/Kinugrinders/

The smaller hand grinders are a work of art, while the m68 looks to be serious competition for the HG-1.

Very much looking forward to the reviews on this one.

Lol.... I'm thinking of one of the 1/2HP motors that powers my lapidary arbours.  It'd be cool to grind 18g of beans in under 1 second.  It'd be a category killer that's for sure!

Id be up for something like that - I've got a Mazzer SJ for home use but I cant quite bring myself to put it on the bench when its only me that drinks coffee most of the time - so ive created a seal for the hopper on my sunbeam cafe series grinder which I keep loaded with enough coffee beans for two coffees at just about all times!

There is also the Kafatek Monolith Titan, if motored is what floats your boat:

I prefer both the aesthetic and the price point to the EG-1.

And the flat burr version (which would probably be my choice):

Monolith is a good looking grinder with great specs !

The price is a bit 'up there' for something that's not 240V, not easily serviceable (proprietary parts excluding burrs) and no track-record.  Given a Mazer Kony Electronic is about the same price if you shop around. I saw a brand new Mazzer Kony after Christmas for $1890 on an eBay shop with full warranty and Australian plug.  That's mini-e territory and would be my choice compared to these prototypes!  The new version of my Compak K10 can be had for the same price for that matter!

So what's the asking price on the mono?

If someone sent me a freebie to use and review I wouldn't say no!
