Getting upgraditis and looking at good lever machines - up to the new fancy profiling machines.
If I can help cure that upgraditis get in touch. My K Bean Dream Machines website is right here: www.kbean.com.au

The Profitec Pro 800 is amazing. Here's a YouTube link showing me pulling a Pro 800 shot: https://youtu.be/OM9N385V0BQ

Take a look :)

Jeez, isn't coffee a tropical crop? I think limited to northern Qld etc if at all in Aust. wouldn't it be? I wouldn't have thought there would be any way short of a lit & heated greenhouse to get it to grow in Tassie and that would be very expensive. That ad was probably just for Tassie roasted coffee.

K Bean, been looking around your site. The Profitec 800 does look nice. Also seen that the (much more expensive - around $9000) ACS Vostok 1 group is coming soon (pre sales on some sites). Then I saw the ACS Vesuvius for under $4800 and it's interesting, but the Home Barista review didn't compare it well against the Profitec 700, but I suspect a bit of fiddling with the profiles may have changed that result.

Welcome mate!  Agreed that as far south as norther NSW would be coffee friendly but I'm happy to be wrong.  My big issue with the ACS machines is: insert Obi Wan:
(he's more machine than espresso maker), but that's an argument for another thread.

Heya guys! Am new here, also post in another forum, but thought I'd join this one if you'll have me :). Recognise a few friendly faces here too :D

Am 30 years old, live in Bannockburn, Victoria. Been coffee-ing for 8-10 years (honestly cannot remember haha...), have done a few years of barista work (chain and specialty coffee) in the past, love espresso but also filter brewing and roasting on my Behmor 1600. Much much more to learn for sure!

Look forward to chatting with you all :)

About time I introduced myself recognise a few avatars and usernames; over there I'm Magic Matt (don't even order magics any more but kept the user name to annoy the grumpy old men of that forum ).

I'm a Taswegian living in Sydney via Melbourne and Canberra, mostly drink espresso at home with my ECM twins (Synchronika and V-Titan), but have been getting more into manual methods lately with Trinity One and pourover (have had an aeropress since forever).

Hey Matt & Simon - welcome, hope you'll enjoy it here... one thing i've noticed is that peeps really seem to respond to photography, so if you've got some favourite espresso shots or perhaps a shot of your setup, feel free to post.

Thought I'd say a quick hello.  Hope you're all having a good mid week coffee or two.

Reasonably long time coffee drinker and occasional CF lurker.

Quick history / coffee confessional:
My family were originally instant drinkers who stepped up to Mokka pot and caffe kimbo packs back in the 90's. ;-)  At the peak of my coffee crimes, my family gave me a 21st birthday present of a Miss Audrey (that's a colourful and plasticy version of Ms Silvia for those who have been spared).  In my poor uni student ignorance I used it with no coffee grinder, no fresh coffee or useful training aside from Rancilio's manual.  Needless to say the coffee produced was average at best.  Audrey died a mercifully early death and I went back to mokka pot/brikka for a decade.  Only been back to espresso land since about 2011.  Moved with my family from Qld to Mid North Coast NSW.  Started home roasting at that time due to a lack of local options and inspired by some Brisbane roasters.

Now by day I'm an IT project and support worker and by weekend a social enterprise / NFP coffee fundraiser barista on a NS Appia II 2 group compact.

I'm fortunate to have work pay for the decent coffee beans I order for them there and get the opportunity to batch brew plenty of different roasters.  The weekend fundraiser budget is a bit tighter but am finding some tasty beans for espresso.

Hope to get to know some of you.

welcome Im a mad coffee convert

didnt start drinking the stuff till I was 30yrs old and began managing fine dining restaurants pretty much around the clock averaging 4hrs sleep per night so naturally coffee was the only affordable legal way to stay awake

since then ive

* managed the first fully owned italian coffee franchise store in australia (segafredo zanetti espresso in hardware lane)

* multi site managed and troubleshooted for a bunch of coffee stores, restaurants, and bars for the ubiquitous Salvatore (the one and only)

* owned my own highly acclaimed cafes in melbourne for 12 years

* written for numerous industry publications

* now im consultation to cafes and producing my own (non coffee) range of products for cafes

* and im studying my cert 4 in TAE to become a hospitality trainer having moved to SEQ from melbs last year!

I still roast my own on a couple of bemore plus, and I just did a coffee catering job last weekend using my own gear for a local tennis club!

greetings and welcome from patrick aka askthecoffeeguy!

Hello, I live in Miami, Florida, USA and I love coffee. After many years of drinking the regular coffee made in an italian espresso moka device, I asked myself, "Why can't I make coffee as good as in a Café, at home?". Well, I began with a DeLonghi bottom of the line machine, and from the first try, my coffee was incredibly better than the
dark beverage I used to drink. Then, things got complicated. I upgraded to Gaggia Classic and still grind my coffee with a Capresso grinder that I bought with the DeLonghi. I have one latte in the morning and a cappucino in the evening, and that was my problem, the milk didn't look as good as the coffee by itself was. I learned about single boiler, heat exchanger and double boiler. Now I have a Baratza Sette 270 and the Lelit PL60PLUST, model Diana with 2 boilers and 2 pumps. Sounds great, does it?. Well not so fast, in United States we have 117Volts 15Amp household electrical outlets and in order to cope with the power of the 2-1300W heating elements of the Diana, the current changes from one element to the other at the rate of 4 seconds at a time. Besides being happy to say hello to this wonderful forum, I'm looking for some input about this matter. I would like to know if I can override the PID and connect the steam boiler directly to a different outlet so that it can be on all the time with the logical limits of the thermostat of the heating element. All this is just about to be able to brew and steam at the same time without seeing the steam power  going to 0.4 bar. The latte that I make is really good, (I use Rwandan Dark Roast Hole Bean Coffee) and makes my life very happy, but the steam matter annoys me a lot.
Thank you for your welcome to your forum.
Beltrán
