Thanks very much to Ryan at Clandestino Coffee Roasters @ 59 Rene St, Noosaville for making my costal coffer journey complete - enjoyed a lovely flat whie from one of the blends and an excellent Ethiopian Sidamo espresso

It's a little bit off the beaten track but definitely worth tavelling for

Tip of the day: head to clandestino coffee first thing in the morning for your coffee rush then grab supplies at the adjoining deli for a picnic at the beach!

Sounds like paradise!  I can feel a mini-break coming on!

Yesterday I stopped in at Edge Espresso bar in Caloundra. It's called 'edge' because it's right on the boardwalk at Bulcock Beach - it's a sensational spot.

They stock Di Bella and the proprietor was very complimentary about their support.

He was also quite knowledgable - it's the only time I've asked for an espresso in Caloundra and they've not only known what it was, but wanted to know if I wanted it as a double-shot ristretto.

He's got a nice Wega 2 group sitting on the shelves and some very nice looking espresso cups. If I didn't have my eye on some of the Terra Kerramik these would've swayed me.

I have to add another roaster to the Sunshine Coast, Noosa

Called "Little Cove"  it is Close to ALDI and Organica but you do not have to use the aldi parking lot

Just drive around the back and they have their own parking area. there is also a German Bakery there.

I know the Barista and possable owner and his wife, ( great couple) they have some blends and some SO to choose from

they have at least 6 grinders set up ready for your order.  I only tried it once so far and it was really good.

the barista is one of the Orig. Costa Noosa crew way back when the Kiwi had the place and it was better.

I paid Little Cove a visit today after C-Man raved about it at the social.  Very nice, small but plenty of seats and friendly staff.  The place was pretty busy.  Lovely German bakery next door too! :)

Website http://www.littlecovecoffee.com.au/

They offer a variety of beans, and offer whole bean or ground.  I had their signature blend "Cockadoodle Brew" in a latte.  Very nice.

Prices for beans aren't too bad, but they shocked me when they told me my coffee was free with a bag of beans!  That sweetened the deal!  I don't usually buy beans that much, but bought some decaf for a try.  Pity it didn't have a roasted on date on the bag, but when I asked they supplied the information.

As C-Man said they have one big grinder, and a bank of smaller on demand grinders, so by the look of it you can order anything from their range of roasted beans.  I think it was a Has Garanti roaster behind the counter.

Very nice place and if your in the Noosa area another coffee destination added to the list.

I should mention a new cafe in Peregian beach just opened Sept. 2nd already busy.

Called Organic something next to "Raw energy"

They have a 4 group of E61s,  and even a 22g. tipple basket that makes a good restretto ,  some kind of Italian machine starting with M
that has been  PID modded and who knows what else.

They only have one bean at this stage to try but it is a good "Yurgy" Blend from West side roasters.

I haven't tried the food yet but it is homemade and looks very good!

C-Man.  You neglected to tell me they charge $5.50 for a latte!   ???  Popped in here on Saturday afternoon.  Small shop full of organic "stuff".  Wife ordered a latte for me, and stopped there when they said it was $5.50 (she diappeared into the sushi shop instead of having a Chai).  Can't say it was anything special either.  I was expecting the best coffee I've ever tasted for that price!  I've had better from Little Cove, Pioneer and Clandestino (and they are all more reasonabily priced too).

Seems that this is yet another shop in our area that thinks tacking on "organic" to their name/merchandise will make folk pay premium dollars for stuff they don't need.  I won't be returning, and hope they close soon and another icecream shop opens in it's place! (I miss the that icecream shop).

Sorry I still can't get over that... $5.50!!!!  From now on I'm asking for a price before ordering coffee!

Surely that quote right there deserves it's own thread... and here it is:

http://www.bestcafes.com.au/forum/off-topic/organic-foods-any-real-benefits/new/#new

$5.50 for a Latte is certainly high but if it's great and more importantly it is advertised as $5.50 then I'm okay with that.  I would prefer to pay $5.50 for an acceptable coffee as opposed to $3.50 for [insert coffee-chain here] swill.

I didn't go in Brett, I sat outside with my youngest.  There were quite a few staff around, she asked for a latte, it was being made, as they stated the price so she counldn't really change her mind.  She was going to order herself a drink but kept her mouth shut!  She didn't mention if they had a price list on display.

For me anything over $4 is expensive for a standard latte (ie not a double or jug of milk job).  There aren't many chains around here, but I know a few places to get a "acceptable", ie drinkable coffee.  There are places that serve fantastic coffee, and it usually doesn't cost me anymore, but they aren't on every corner!

I'll be having my coffee at home before I go out if this is a future trend in my local area!

Mate, I hear ya!  It's he same here... the notable exceptions are quite a drive.  Upon reflection I suppose the reason why the price if $5.50 doesn't stop me is because I drink coffee out so infrequently.  If I was ordering coffee out and about more often then price would be a factor and yes, $5.50 had better be awesome without going as far as passing out of anyone or anything's rectum.

that is strange, they only charge me $4.50 for a triple restretto or a large flat white.

I agree $5.50 is way over the top, might have a word with them about that.

now it is $4 small and $4.50 large

I get a 22g  restretto in a small cup and they charge me $4

Pray tell; what is a 22g  restretto

How do I recognise it in the cup AND is that what has to be asked for  to get that ?

Restretto: When italian ladies require a second face-lift but can't afford it due to the economic downturn they are served a mixture of clag glue and lemon in a 7oz cup... this has become know as the third-wave cosmetic proceedure!

BAHhahhha

I call it a triple restretto but not sure if a 22g basket is a triple or just big double?

They are just pulling your leg C-man.

It's ristretto, not restretto. ;)  http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ristretto

I'm sure they used a double basket or bigger if you ordered a double ristretto.  Doesn't really matter how big as long as it tastes nice!  What does make a bit of a difference taste wise is how it was done.  Some pull a normal shot short, while others adjust grind slightly finer and aim for the same time as a normal espresso shot, but the volume in the cup would be smaller. :)

At home you have control over it all, out and about, well that's a bit hit and miss. :)

Just popped into Pioneer Roastery in Yandina.  Haven't been for a while because my Nambour appointments schedule has been rather tight lately.  They've updated the layout, new tables and chairs here and there.  They have upholstered some chairs with old coffee bags, and even a nice couch for laze around on.

They stopped having any food which is a shame, it's just coffee and a few biccies.  I really don't know where they are headed with their business.  They have a lovely big building, but it looks so empty.  I would have thought a brew bar, maybe some machines/grinders to look at/buy.  Outdoor seating would be nice and a tidy up of the roasting area so that you can view what's going on.  Maybe something like Cleanskin in Brisbane?   Competition in the area is starting to raise the bar a little, like Clandestino & Little Cove in Noosa.  Would be nice to see Pioneer take them on a bit.  Their espresso is excellent, and very consistant, which is more than I can say for a lot of places I visit.

I think by not doing any food they are really limiting their appeal.  Especially with Bruce highway travellers that want to stop but are dragging the family along and have limited time.  Maybe they can't compete foodwise with the Ginger Factory across the road (which has awful coffee by the way).

According to the girl there, Katie the roaster got the beans in because of some competition she is entering.

I am trying to get a KG

Check out his facebook page for details.  :)  http://www.facebook.com/timadamsspecialtycoffee

Thanks for the list too Kelsey.  I've been down your way a few times and wouldn't have a clue where to go for a decent cup.  We are going to have to catch up soon!  Clandestino's is worth a visit just to see the plane strapped to the roof! lol.

Yep, Kelsey

You should have a look at Clandestineo, lots of things to see and do there,

lots of machines, lots of siphon things set up, big roaster and

Including your own test drive of a Strega!

yep one as a demo, depends on how busy they are though.
