admin Ok according to my sources - apparently pod machines [overall] have gone up from around 52,000 units last year to around 75,000 units this year - a whopping 45% increase! Clearly consumers are prepared to pay for convenience... A
DoubleRistretto that's amazing - i didn't realise they had taken such a hold - convenience over flavour, I say! dR 🙁
admin I don't know AM - according to the figures I got hold of, that was around 75,000 units this past year [as opposed to 52,627 the year before] - that's a hell of a lot of service establishments buying pod machines!! A :o
DoubleRistretto dunno AM - you may be right, but I'd be betting there are a hell of a lot of home consumers in those 75,000. dR
DoubleRistretto i'll drink to that... would be interesting to know what proportion pods are out of the total no. of home espresso machines being sold at the moment?! dR
admin OK have gone back to the figures, and from my sums, looks like pods have gone to just under 25% of the market... agghh! A
blanyon Well at least it is better than instant (I hope) and a step above what some so called cafes serve up!!
over_extracted Having worked for Nespresso here , I have a lot to contribute to this tread. Questions?????/ OE
admin Hi OE - great to get a visitor from London - I guess the key question people are wondering about is how can coffee in the nespresso pods really be fresh? A
over_extracted Hi A Well it depends on what fresh is, to Nespresso it means a compleatly different thing that what it does to us. Mind those little machines run at 19 bar pressure.
blanyon Mmm nespresso fresh, sounds like an oxymoron to me!!! Still it services a significant part of the market, you will just never see one in my house ;D
over_extracted The coffee is roasted and ground , placed in the capsule and sealed with what they proudly call a hermetically sealed aluminium capsule, in plain english (air tight). OE ;D
askthecoffeeguy I go camping with around 100 mates over new years and I take my Rancilio S24 single group commercial espresso machine, and Mazzer Super Joly with me - we've even bought a generator which we use to power the site which at night is alternately used to power dj and live music sets interspersed with scheduled coffee breaks: can't do both at once as the gene can't hack it hahahaha!

So a nespresso would be a ideal camping replacement and allow you to have music and disrupt the peace and quite ? I'm sure I could use it as a percussion instrument...
over_extracted By the way, I sold all of my Nespresso machines, I rather use may cafetiere, makes a much better coffee. Nespresso is just an expensive toy. I wish I could talk, but due to having worked for Nespresso, the legal hawks are looking. OE ;D
