shape_shifter Amazing, I ordered on Tuesday night, so for most businesses essentially Wednesday but looking at the tracking, my package was with the post at 7am on Wednesday morning!!! Actual aeropress question - does the rubber part on everyone elses move up and down slightly? I've been dying for a real coffee so will be trying it out tonight and then taking it to work with me tomorrow ;D
Brett_H Wow, that is quick! Sadly no matter how good the supplier stuff always takes an extra couple of days here in the Western Suburbsof Brisbane. Unless it's coming from oS then it's very quick. My wife placed a big order from thevUS of specialty jewlers wire in silver and gold. The box arrived within the week! Why can't we do that in OZ???
shape_shifter Brett living west of Newcastle I always doubt that one day delivery to and from Sydney can be done but it almost always happens and that's just normal mail not express because we are supposedly just out of the express area, the most amazing though is CS deliveries, Geelong to here in a day, now that is amazing delivery. It got to late to make a coffee tonight, so I'll make one tomorrow at work 🙂
madpierre shape_shifter wrote: Actual aeropress question - does the rubber part on everyone elses move up and down slightly? Yep, but that is no concern. I think it is so that if and when the rubber ever becomes damaged in any way you can simply replace it. It won't come off when withdrawing the plunger from your tube as there is enough pressure all around.
shape_shifter mp that definitely makes sense, thanks, made my first coffee today, not too bad, not too good, I think regardless of how 'easy' it is, you still have to find the technique that is right for the roast 🙂
Brett_H I remember reading that moka pots make great coffee. The first one I ever made was great tea :o Every device has it's sweet spot. Keep us updated. I've only shied away from these because make coffee at work to share.
shape_shifter Will do Brett, making one shortly for my OH so will see how he likes it as well. UNM, yes I have a coava disk, nothing worse than paper I feel, I might try it one day but I doubt it 😃
Tango I've found that with my aeropress, the dose is probably the biggest variable, more so than grind size. Also, I use the inverted method with the Coava disk and I often top up the resulting coffee with hot water and make it into a long black, or add some milk to make what I guess is just a normal coffee. Try the papers as well, I know some people prefer them but I think you get better body with the disk. I don't mind the papers but they need a good rinse with water first in my opinion! I do love my aeropress 😃
UNM I haven't been doing the inverted method, but will give it a try. I read in the instructions that you can reuse the paper filters, to reduce environmental impact or some such. This appealed to my scottish sense of frugality and I have found that the second cup out of a filter seems better, but that may all be in the mind.
Brett_H I remember from my drip filter days that the unbleached papers were better than the bleached and the Swiss-gold filter was better again IMHO! I imagine like UMN that much of this was also in my head and also was an opinion driven by price.
shape_shifter Well my OH has had 2 coffees so far from the aeropress and he thinks it's ok, second one was at a lower temp and he thought it was better. He said that there is no chocolate or dark taste to but that it's still ok, he drinks flat whites or cappuccinos.
UNM http://worldaeropresschampionship.wordpress.com/recipes/ Only comment from a quick glance - the first recipe "Jeff's method" refers to '2/4ths of the rest of the water'. In my world that would be about half. Yes I know I am picky but things like that just irritate me - why not say 378/756ths? Second recipe appeals to my desire for simplicity (although it is missing some important information to ensure consistency). Anyroad, hopefully crema aeropress users will enjoy trying a couple of winning recipes.
Lacehim I've been considering one of these for ages. What sort of beans are you guys using? Are they roasted for Filter or Espresso?

Are they roasted for Filter or Espresso? experiment with BOTH .. totally depends on your taste preference. .. just adjust your brew method .. Espresso roasts i brew shorter, whereas Filter Roasts .. I brew loooonger !!!!! but .. the better the BEANS you use initially ... the easier it is to get an enjoyable cup. In fact I have not adjusted my grind setting on my Kyocera CM50-CF (equivalent to the HARIO Skerton) for over 2 years! I just adjust the other parameters (usually on the fly) If you want to research what methods I've tried .. look up au_d2 at the other site: the Kyocera hand grinder thread!

Well I'm sticking with Alex... is that just his competition face....brave judge indeed it was who drew the short straw and had to deliver the news to Alex that he may not have finished in first place! :stir
MoffeeCoff I don't have one. I usually try to find some out of the way coffee house. When I feel lazy, there is a small coffee shop down the street and I generally prefer that.. 🙂
