Beer Appreciation Thread

Flavor is a very subjective cause. Everybody's is different. I would recommend looking for "sampler" 12 package. Sam Adams,Widmer and Blue Moon are a number of excellent beginners to look for, I'm sure that there are others. Look for a bar in your place that has a variety of art drinks and discuss to the bartenders.

I travelled through Germany and Austria for a couple of months many moons ago and gained an appreciation of the European penchant for beer. Being able to walk into a supermarket and pick up 500ml bottles of incredible German wheat beer costing 69 Euro-cents was a revelation. We pay vastly too much for beer here.

Yep, your are correct, and, our beers are rubbish. I can make 150 litres of quality all grain beer for a lot less than $100.

Set up is bits and pieces scattered all over the place. Here is a piccy of the final product using a New Heidelberg Malt which allows for the lightest coloured Lagers ever produced. This unfiltered all grain beer at its best.

I noticed a few ginger beer fans in this thread short of making it myself the best ginger beer, for me anyway is Budrim Ginger Syrup available in most supermarkets and soda water this way you can make it as strong or sweet as you like it served with a slice of lime.

One beer that I really enjoy (and Grill'd got me onto it) is Stone & Wood Pacific Ale http://stoneandwood.com.au/beers/pacific-ale/ I can't really describe it as I'm bad at that, but it's good if you like the Coopers style ales.

Took the ladies of the house to a restaurant called Papa Jacks in Fortitude Valley today and they had this beer on tap I ordered it with my meal and it was a nice drop [attach=1] KK

Ginger beer is available everywhere But Bundaberg ginger beer is the best

Have to agree about Coopers punching above its weight. I like the Pale. I also like Guinness - PJ O'briens in Melbourne does it well although the best I had was in Bath in England - about as close as I got to Ireland. 😃 If you're in Melbourne, go to the top end of Little Bourke St (Parliament House end) and go in to Mrs Parmas. Not only do they do 20+ kinds of Parma, they do Victorian natural beers. What is on tap varies depending on what they can get, but they also do a tray of 4oz samples - five of the beers and some pretzels along with a score/comments card and pencil. Great place to try out brews you may never otherwise get to see.

Just recently I went to a nice restaurant with a group of people and had a nice meal I also tried a beer they had That beer was White Rabbit Dark Ale On first taste it was sweet - like sweetened with honey As my preference is bitter like ales it was a surprise to my taste buds I did not mind the flavour for a change and on that occasion suited the meal [attach=1] KK
