barista training

fi

Hi everyone
I am looking at doing a coffee course and was wondering if someone could recommend a training centre to me. I have been working as an EMO for the last 6 years but have had no formal training and would like to complete a course. I am tossing up between DGCI and Sydeney coffee academy. Has anyone been to one of these schools and did they find it worthwhile? All feedback would be greatly appreciated as these course cost big bucks and don't want to waste my time and money going to the wrong one!!

Fi - from what i've heard, DGCi is expensive, but pretty good. The good thing is that they offer courses at different levels, which means that for someone who knows the basics, you could jump to the next level. Sydney Coffee Academy - [guess you mean the TAFE?] - don't know much about them. dR

Hi Fi, If you are looking for training centers in and around Sydney, here are a few you may want to check out. As you have mentioned cost as an important point, i have outlined the cost of the basic level training courses as well as the hands on stuff. Regardless of which you choose, i reckon you will get something valuable to take home for any of the following. Danes DGCI - http://www.coffeeinstitute.com.au/ $200pp Intro to Espresso $210pp Espresso Workshop Brookvale Forsyth - http://www.forsythcoffee.com.au/6644.html $500 (start to finish, covering all levels) Willoughby Numero Uno - http://numerouno.com.au/training.php $95 2hrs intro/theory $150 3hrs hands on (1on1) Beaconsfield Toby's Estate - http://www.tobysestate.com.au/page/accredited_training.html $600 covering 4 levels, groups of 4-8 $150 intro to espresso $150 advanced espresso Woolloomooloo Hope this helps 🙂

Thanks Tommy. Thats a great help. I will check them out. Have you had experience with any of them? I think i am still leaning towards Danes.

Hi Fi If you already have 6 years of experience, I think that you might be better spending your money with some private tuition from a recognised barista trainer. You would be wasting your time and money on any of the above Intro courses. You would gain more from having a barista trainer assessing you and making suggestions as to how to improve your skills. This would be 1 on 1. If you are interested in this, then send me a PM and I will forward you some names. John
