After the old forum software breaking in a way that we were unable to fix, we've migrated the site to a new platform.
Some elements aren't working as we'd hoped - some avatars didn't survive the transition, and we're still having issues with attachments that weren't added as inline images, but we're hoping to have that all sorted out soon.
Haha c-man. It won't come to that for us...as long as Mrs Egg gets back on the coffee train after the bub comes along. I've moved the coffee machine out to the store room and will roast a batch outside the next time I manage to sneak out of going shopping with her. So including time for maturation it will be another couple of weeks until I get a decent(ish) coffee again. Thanks a lot for the offer Chester. I might have to place an order for when it arrives as I will have zero time for rotating then I imagine.
So what are the top picks from mycuppa's roasted bean range at the moment? Can be blends or single origin. Beans of interest are * Burundi * Redemption of the Spro (love the name) * Ethiopian Yirg * Costa Rica * Guatemala Are there any of the above that stand out as 'exceptional' or up there with the best you've had? Not sure whether I will go 1kg or 2x 500g .. so I'm looking for the best 2 for milk coffee. Cheers
Hallelujah! Went to the markets this weekend, and grabbed my weekly coffee. I fancied something milk based for a change, and had a bit of a shock when Mrs Egg asked for a few sips. It appears she is finally getting over the nausea stage of pregnancy. If only I had managed to roast some beans I could be drinking my own coffee next weekend.
Good to hear egbbert. This mornings effort was the 90+ Etho Tchembe and Nikessi all through the Slayer and the results were very very AWESOME :thumb: Hmm green beans delivered to my door, roaster and slayer right there, seems I never have to leave the house again. Chester

Crikey .. C-man asking the tough questions. 8) I'm not at the stage where I can identify the individual flavours in what I'm drinking .. other than the obvious sweet chocolate caramel ones. As for what kind of citrus, berry or melon flavours the little suckers deliver .. I wouldn't know .. so I cannot describe exactly what I like about a certain bean .. other than whether it appeals to me .. or not. It's the same for me when drinking a glass of wine. I can't tell what grape it is made from or what soil, acidity, and region the grapes were grown. With coffee beans .. it is basically do I like it .. and to what degree, rather than identifying the complexity .. layers, individual flavours, balance etc. I would love to be able to identify and put a name to them. I'd need to do a course with many sample tastings of single origin beans from different regions ... as well as studying blends to find out why certain beans were used to balance the blend. Maybe further down the track I can better answer that one .. only for the moment .. I can only really describe what I like .. by naming a particular bean/blend .. without being able to explain in any detail .. the contributing factors as to why I like it so much .. or, on the other hand .. what it was that I didn't like about the coffee.
start by dividing between Fruity or nutty.. My fav. from "My Cuppa" would have to be the way he roasts the Sumatra Blue Batak I have had that bean many times and never liked it until I tried Jeff's roast he has it nailed...
Just finished a Siphon of Yirgacheffe Koke OCT natural, roasted to just on rolling first crack a week ago. Delightful (in a hipster kind of way). Fruity, fresh - perfect for a warm spring morning
I got fed up of the sub par roasting I have been getting from old beans on the Behmor, so bought a sample from @cosmic_couple22 of his latest roastings. They arrived yesterday and the aroma was far nicer than I have got from home roasting recently. Tried an espresso of the Panama Hartmann Estate - Black Winey last night, and while I didn't manage to dial the grind in perfectly first time the taste was unreal. Even Wifebert commented on how nice it smelt, and she has hated the smell of coffee throughout her pregnancy. Has a lovely fruity / winey flavour. Couple more shots this morning, and I'm getting close to great shots. Hopefully the Ethiopian Tchembe is just as nice, but different.
Just polished off a flat white Tanzania KVCG peaberry, roasted on the 12th. :coffee2: It's standing up very well actually since I discovered 2 days ago the ziplock had stripped. Exactly how long the bag was in the "open" state, I've no idea, however there's only about 120g left so, not too concerned. This is my second bag failure this year with this episode a first time use bag. (Not yet recycled). Anyone else had this issue? The male zip part totally separating from the side.
Moved on to Cosmic_couple's Ethipian Tchembe this week. It is quite different from the Panama Hartmann Estate, but just as nice. I've been very impressed with Chester's coffee and would recommend it to anyone.
I roasted up the other week a blend, which you could say is a Mocca java but I added a little MM for some punch. Very impressed with the blend and it will be a keeper for me! I note the MM was no added post roast and bag was cracked 10 days post roast. Blend is roughly in these ratios of Eth Yirg Konga:Sum Gayo Spec:MM, 42.5:42.5:15 Jonty
I just finished my Honduras Cup of Excellence 2012 which I roasted myself. I loved this bean and bought a bit a few years ago, but held on to a bit of green to enjoy later and enjoyed it very very much thank you. The mrs didn't complain either! Next it's time for so more SO which are resting nicely.
Drinking the Magneto Espresso Blend from Clandestino Roasters on the Sunshine Coast! Perfect for my milk drinking family. Although I'm sure there is room on my bench for another SJ for an origin...
Tomorrow March 5th and the Yirg from Chester will be good to go.........yummy I also instructed him to roast some more now for another 2 weeks wait away. that coffee is absolutely undrinkable until day 13 then it is suddenly transformed into paradise for my taste buds anyway.

Must be the week for Yirg, I just broke into a batch I roasted a few days ago. :thumb: Bloody sight better than that India Elephant hills Peaberry rubbish I just finished. :-[
Yirg Kochera Brett H little bit longer development time than what I normally do on the yirg, but on the Kochera it pulls a little more blueberry out of the bean which was what C-man was after. First crack 11:50mins @ 188c dumped at 14:55 @ 200c medium roast.
