After the old forum software breaking in a way that we were unable to fix, we've migrated the site to a new platform.

Some elements aren't working as we'd hoped - some avatars didn't survive the transition, and we're still having issues with attachments that weren't added as inline images, but we're hoping to have that all sorted out soon.

  • Dont you just love the simplicity of form and function that is also a thing of beauty  KK
  • Cheers Ros. Heading there next month so will try to persuade Mrs egg that we need to stop by and try them. Until this we have had to go to bangsar to find a decent coffee
  • Went there yesterday. If possible the machine actually looks better than Ros's photos show and the espresso was just as good. Had a little chat with the barista about lever machines and ended up getting a freebie shot as he wanted to show me what their other single origin was like.  Both amazing coffees and I wish my machine was behaving to make espresso anywhere near that nice.
  • The ES2 on its future base with the OE Pharos, to be fixed next to it. J
  • And if that's not enough, on Monday this beauty arrived, all the way from Italy, a fascinating journey! OH got fedup with my procrastinations, asked for credit card details one night in August, and ordered it online.... But wil have to wait till after holiday is South Africa to be inaugurated. Expect many questions! J
  • Well your on your way to coffee heaven Janlab As an owner I can vouch for the Strega  :thumb: KK

Looks like you no longer need the es2. Feel free to send it to me.
  • Oh wow JL... You've got the bug... [real bad]! Congratulations!!!
  • If you think i'm crazy you're probably right! Just couldn't resist this. Its brand new! Best is that OH just love the Art Deco design... More to learn, and still getting to grips with the ES2. J
  • You're irrepressible JL.  That looks awesome.  I'm green with envy... Congratulations!
  • Great little lever machine Fantastic condition as well  :thumb: Need more photos when time permits KK
  • So I got myself a Strega, a much wanted and long delayed upgrade. I'm still taming it but I have pulled maybe 20 odd shots on it so far with a good strike rate. I think my HG-One still needs bedding it a bit, creama has a tendency to be a bit thin but it may be due to finding the right technique for this machine. Here is a latte I just made on the machine, good tiger flecking, steaming needs improvement from slow steam with the Breville DB which is so easy to get great micro-foam with this is more of a challenge because it's over in about 5 seconds. • Absolutely beautiful setup and results Strega, HG1  :thumb: I have not fallen out of love with my Strega KK
  • That's a very desirable 'shrine to coffee' you've got happening there @Ros.... I'm sure our resident 'Strega-Master' @KK will be able to assist with any queries... That's exciting... An L1, now a Strega, whose next?? : clap : clap : cheers of adulation I sense @C-man getting the upgradeitis itch, eh?

you know me all too well, I got the disease just not the coin.
  • Picked this up today. The Second shot I poured was the best espresso I've made at home barr none. Can't wipe the smile off my face.

Your YouTube vids were the inspiration behind the purchase KK. do you weigh your doses at all? I'm using 21gms in an EP Precision basket and Wondering if I can go finer. I'm dosing so I tamp down 8mm as you recommended somewhere! And get a double in 25seconds with zero blonding (pulling the cup and letting it run on) not counting pre infusion. No idea if I should be happy with that or keep tweaking!

I don't weigh the dose as grind courseness alters the weight with every grinder adjustment The only staple in the routine is the tamp depth Let that be you're guide And just make coffee that pleases your senses After the shot is complete, I use a cup to catch the extra run off so my drip tray doesn't get dirty ? It's not anal is it ?
  • That's exactly what I've been doing, it's too shiny not too!
  • Congratulations Luke!  They are a stunning machine and produce a really sweet shot!

Brett knows as we had a great day at Barazi Bezera testing and putting the Strega through its passes He must remember the tiger stripe shots he made on that day KK
  • This thread has lay dormant for quite some time. Like an old lever machine sitting out the back of an old cafe.  I have been a member of this site for quite a while but haven't posted for a long time  so here seemed as good as anywhere to burst back onto the online stage. I thought id start with a nice three group Eureka I found in a cafe in Paris, unfortunately they weren't using it and the coffee that I did buy was dreadful.
  • More to come. I have a been collecting domestic lever machines since my first coffee machine purchase - a Bezzera Familia- which I deeply regret selling when I moved back to Sydney from the US. Since then I have been trying to fill the hole with other lever machines like this la Peppina by FE-AR.
  • The way to a coffee enthusiasts heart is to post some lever machine photos Gotta love that 3 lever And that retro Peppina KK
  • One more for today, I don't want to turn up post a million photos then disappear for another three years. A couple of artsy shots of my Faemina before it was restored.
  • Mechanical works of art Can’t argue with that KK
  • I have miles of this stuff KK. I fairly recently travelled to Binasco to see the MUMAC museum at the La Cimbali factory. Honestly one of the most amazing experiences of my life. I will dig out some highlight lever shots and post them here when I get some more time.
