After the old forum software breaking in a way that we were unable to fix, we've migrated the site to a new platform.

Some elements aren't working as we'd hoped - some avatars didn't survive the transition, and we're still having issues with attachments that weren't added as inline images, but we're hoping to have that all sorted out soon.

  • I too have an EM6910 and I rarely look at the dial, with my best shots coming well past what Sunbeam recommend is their 'sweet spot.' I've been following this 9bar thing and perhaps people are reading too much into the pressure gauge??  Imagine if it wasn't there and you got a rubbish shot, I think you'd still go back to basics in terms of changing grind, dose and (to a lesser degree) tamp.  Beans could also play a role. Even if your machine is programmed to produce 9 bar perfectly every time, I think those factors will probably affect the type of coffee you're producing.  Taste to me is what is important, not necessarily what the dial is saying!!
  • Well it time I contributed part of my story. I have put an OPV valve in my EM6910 and it
  • Welcome Wimmera, Wow, this is quite a first post.  I'm sure our resident 6910 champ will have some advice in regards to straightening out your machine.  My question is do you want a project or a coffee?  If you want a coffee why not invest in something that will serve you longer and more reliably with some general maintenance and the fix up and sell the Sunbeam.  That's what I'd be doing but then again, I'm not as technically minded as some of you and I really want to drink coffee as opposed to restore/repair/refurb. Your posting options should be available now that your post is 'live.' Why not go over to our new members area and tell us a bit about yourself and your journey... And again, welcome.
  • Thanks Brett of course your right about upgrading to a better machine and as I said about this mod right at the start - I don't recommend it! Not sure which way I will go if and when I update have a few limitations though Bench space, want quick warmup and Budget and should probaly be addressing my Sunbeam 450 grinder first. Just at the moment its producing a reasonable shot. Main reason for the post is to inform others that may be contemplating an OPV in the EM6910. Are yes now I can add the picture. Wimmera
