After the old forum software breaking in a way that we were unable to fix, we've migrated the site to a new platform.

Some elements aren't working as we'd hoped - some avatars didn't survive the transition, and we're still having issues with attachments that weren't added as inline images, but we're hoping to have that all sorted out soon.

Service Industry and Manufacturers heading for major fallout

There is lots of info out there re. Warranty and so called Extended warranty and what is covered Vs what is not covered.  Yet  the majority of the public get it wrong for many reasons.

As a taste people should visit here....

Then add to that the turnaround times and issues for local agents to support a product that they often get little or no support (other than some parts and a basic manual).  Let alone the implications of how a repair might effect warranty and or ongoing perceived manufacturer support.

Let alone the agro customers when they are told that the agent can not do the work re. so called extended warranties.  Even after getting approval, some repairers are not getting paid and are thus will no longer take on the work that is offered through some extended agreements.

Some places offer a replacement and that is one way some manufacturers and or insurance people are managing...

Add in the cost of materials / overheads and a couple of hrs work to do a repair /parts / clean / test and admin and it can come close to even a $600 machine.

Thus more and more appliance and small system repairers are going to the wall and or are no longer accepting work from many manufacturers re. the repair of said products.

I am aware of at least 3 small appliance places in Brisbane that have just got up and walked out and away.

  • I need to win lotto.... No mate, if the pre-existing guys are pulling up stumps then you need a different model.  Offer an out of warranty repair from your home office weekend job cash rates.  Advertise in the local rag and offer email correspondence only.  The worst that can happen is that you are earning too much and have too much work to keep up part time.  Then you expand.  If it doesn't work out, you keep the shirt on ya back and your primary source of income. If these guys are only making pocket money, what's wrong with using your expertise to put a bit of money in your own pocket!
