After the old forum software breaking in a way that we were unable to fix, we've migrated the site to a new platform.

Some elements aren't working as we'd hoped - some avatars didn't survive the transition, and we're still having issues with attachments that weren't added as inline images, but we're hoping to have that all sorted out soon.

Long winded but fairly impressive latte art video

My latte art is awful, just can't get the hang of it. I put the blame squarely on my wife's shoulders for being lactose intolerant.

I'm always looking to improve however and really enjoyed this video:

  • Honestly, i think i fell asleep.
  • His voice is quite... sonorous... :D
  • hahaha lucky i can't hear that then.  Cause just watching him sent me off to sleep.
  • Thanks Kelsey, sure everyone might not agree that you should do some of those but I'm going to try them :)
  • What precision! What refinement! Pack it all up boys, this here's the pinnacle of coffee making.
  • soooo Italian. just one question, I always hear how HX machines are better than single boilers because one can steam milk and brew coffee at the same time, yet I have never seen anyone do that?
  • I do it from time to time when I'm in a real rush or need to make a lot of coffees in a row. The big problem for a lot of machines would be that as you texture the milk the boiler temp drops - mine goes from 93 - 86 in the time it takes to texture 300ml. This can result in a cool, sourish brew. My Bezzera BZ07 has an electrically heated grouphead however, which balances things out enough that I don't notice the difference if I do both at once.
  • thanks K one other question, when he was setting the grind for 30ml in 30 sec. was he using a double or single basket?
  • I couldn't tell. But if he was using a double he'd be grinding finer and tamping more carefully. I typically make two types of coffee in a day: 1) A double basket for two single espressos 2) A double basket for a double ristretto Usually #1 turns out to be 2 single ristrettos, but I can live with that. So with a double basket for espresso I'm aiming for two single 30ml servings in about 27-30 secs and I'll adjust the grind accordingly. But if I'm just brewing for me, I'll adjust it tighter and try for just 30ml out of a double basket for my doppio ristretto. Same volume of ground coffee, different volumes of water. Which is why I can never get the volumetric buttons dialed in on my BZ07. The benefits of being able to single-dose grind!
  • camera work and music a highlight for me, i lasted like 38 mins, incredible!
