Thefts from businesses happen all the time. This one is no worse than any other. Doesn't make it good of  course, but we have insurance to cover such things and I suspect chances of recovery are  high. The machine and grinders  will probably be advertised somewhere and many  of us forum readers will be aware of this and flag  suspicious  listings. Even if culprit kept machine and one grinder, they still have two more to off load. It would be a rare person that kept  three commercial grinders for home use. I reckon putting GPS tracking devices into espresso machines for tracking theft is overkill. How common is such a theft, compared to, say, theft of till takings, fraud, or non payment of valid invoices? The article  suggests  one or two machines a year are stolen throughout Australia based on the reported thefts they mention.

Why don't they use something like microscopic DataDot security that Subaru use on their cars?  That way even individual parts can be identified when it's stripped.  If your talking 40k for a machine, that's car money anyway, so it could be done and shouldn't impact on the price much. Such is life though, you need to bolt down everything these days.  Some folk just have no morals.

The stats on stolen coffee kit are much higher than reported - like many stolen items that typically fly under the reporting radar. I've had 4x machines and 6 grinders go over the last 4 years. On top of that there was the cafe owner that decided to close in the middle of the night and clean out the cafe along with all my equipment, etc - never to be heard of again. Insurance is not the answer. Unfortunately, slim chance of recovery I'd say despite the rarity of that type of machine. As for the grinders - no chance unless the police are successful (let's hope they catch the dirty dogs !).
