After the old forum software breaking in a way that we were unable to fix, we've migrated the site to a new platform.

Some elements aren't working as we'd hoped - some avatars didn't survive the transition, and we're still having issues with attachments that weren't added as inline images, but we're hoping to have that all sorted out soon.

No Fat / Skinny Milk

My wife has now decided to use Paul's Skinny Milk
This milk has zero fat, zero Cholesterol , and more calcium

Now that we have lived with it for a week or so I thought I would review and report on it for the Crema members

How does it look to the eye - a little less white and see through compared to full cream milk
How does it taste - surprisingly not much different to full cream milk
How does it texture -
It needs less steam time to get the same result
It surprisingly steams very good microform
It will stiffen up quickly if not used quickly
It will stiffen up if to much or to long under steam

When steaming is optimum - it pours quite well

So in conclusion
Steam it less for best results

  • My wife likes the no fat stuff.  It does steam a lot quicker, and if someone wants foam on top, no fat is the way to go. I get the proper local full cream, pasteurized only milk, tastes nicer and steams better. ;)  I've always been a bit wary of the no fat, no cholesterol stuff with added this and that.  Get a cow, milk it, drink it!  Why does it have to be so complicated?  :P

  • An update on various milk products We are now testing Physical milk fat free This milk 1) tastes nice 2) Steams nice - and at times better than full cream 3) Latte art is much easier that skinny milk but one needs to b aware not to over steam 4) Makes very fine micro bubbles Overall I would use Physical milk if full cream is not available KK
  • My wife has gone through phases of Physical or Skim.  They are excellent products but for me it's full cream all the way and un homogenised is even better!
  • A couple of photos of microform and resulting pours with Physical milk no fat Attachment not found.Attachment not found.
  • Ha!  We have 6l of Scenic Rim Unhomoginised and 2l of Physical.  My wife reckons the Physical is great but this morning she demanded a good coffee!?!?  This upon further interrogation means the full fat milk.
  • Another milk trial Wife had to get Low Fat Physical as the no fat variety was sold out Anyway my report on its steaming capabilities This milk with a little fat content does not perform as well as its no fat counterpart The no fat Physical is vastly superior in all aspects KK
