After the old forum software breaking in a way that we were unable to fix, we've migrated the site to a new platform.

Some elements aren't working as we'd hoped - some avatars didn't survive the transition, and we're still having issues with attachments that weren't added as inline images, but we're hoping to have that all sorted out soon.

Guinness Chocolate Cake

I'll admit the recipe was swiped lock stock and barrel from Nigella Whatsherface but it was so moist and tasty and even a numpty like me could make it.

for the cake

    250 ml Guinness
    250 grams unsalted butter
    75 grams cocoa powder
    400 grams caster sugar
    142 ml sour cream
    2 large eggs
    1 tablespoon vanilla extract
    275 grams plain flour

  • Awesome recipe.  thanks for sharing.  I reckon the kids and will give this a go in my next hols and I can liberate the other Guinness left over for medicinal purposes!!  I wonder if it would be just as good with half the bicarbonate?  I don't like the taste of of leavening agents even if they're left to rest before baking.  Baking powder is just as bad in my books!
  • one muther of a cake! don't know why it did the volcano thing. delicious, i'm not going to spoil it with the topping. j
  • Looks amazing!!  Well done.  Clearly I'm going to have to give this a go.
