Its a good one Stuart, very nice condition and the more desirable model IMO. That is the 'standard' double basket, there is also a smaller single and a very rare, and larger size double.

No shot from the Caravel yet. I've still got to do the seals and order a 'mini' tamper. I'm off to Ethiopia in the morning, and back in a week, so will have to pick up where I left off when I'm back. At least I won't be short on good coffee where I'm heading Might even grab some more beans to add to the stash.

Tamper? Use whatever fits. I started using my caravel with a spice jar as tamper. Shampoo bottles and the like may work. Seals? How do you know they are faulty if you haven't tried it?

I received my Caravel from fellow Crema member galumay yesterday and used the "old spice jar" trick for the tamp. It's sitting quite nicely alongside the Witch at the moment, but the "work area" is looking just a little crowded perhaps :question:  :coffee: My second shot with the spice jar worked a treat, but, like borat, I will chase up the correct size tamper, just because......... I like to have more coffee stuff :exclaim: :exclaim:  :rofl:

My tamper was custom made by my neighbour. Turned to 43.5mm and after polishing came out at 43.4. I reckon you could safely go to 44mm though, unless you dose really low in the basket.

Just ordered a stubby tamper from OE, so won't be needing the spice jar any longer... Also ordered a set of seal removal picks, some Dow 111 and a tube of simichrome (for polishing Bakelite). Off to San Francisco next week.

Well early this morning I finally got to put the Caravel to good use on camping duty! I had it running off 12V via a 1000W inverter, and it worked a treat.  I'm still learning how to use it, but was getting some very nice shots with a slightly coarser grind and just a single pull action with a 3-4second 'pre-infusion'. Here's a couple of pics..

It's only a 30min drive from home, and from the beach;) The well worn, crazed and cracked Aeropress has now reached retirement... Here's a pic of what the trailer looks like when it's all packed away.

Yep it kind of evolved after so many camping trips.  Just had a second axel added and some more storage.  Labour is so cheap here it doesn't cost much for someone to custom build whatever you want.  Decent coffee and running water for a shower is all I need for a few days out in the desert..
