Saeco Royal digital auto - any feedback?

Hi, I am looking to buy a coffee machine. Have around $1000 to spend.
Have searched the forum and got much (too much?) good info.
I am leaning towards an automatc (sorry guys) and was considering a second hand Saeco Royal digital (a 5 year old one currently on Ebay that seems it may go for around $400) - or buying a new machine for up to $1200 -less would be better

I do espresso (for myself) & capaccino (wife) a couple of times per day. Sometimes my wife will do 3 caps to share with a couple of friends.

Currently use a $100 Chinese machine so anything would be an improvement

Has anyone had any experience with this machine ?

Is the grinder in these OK or do you think I should be looking at a Rancillo Silvia (+ Rocky grinder) or a VV and do a bit more work for a better coffee.

Any help & opinions most appreciated, Thanks

Hi Few hints,maybe helps. I have used the Saeco royale at work,good coffee,good grinding..quick and easy. If you want a REAL espresso forget about AUTOMATIC machines. Rancillio Sylvia plus Rancillio Rocket grinder...good combination ,arround 1200$. I would not buy an second hand if I don't know how has been used..if the machine is not good it will cost you heaps to fix it...plus life span of an automatic it's only a few years anyway. Get an old italian simple machine ..they run forever.Boema,Faema,Rancillio,any of them. Make shure the boiler is ok and MUST be brass... Seals,little parts are easy to find and cheap...AUTOMATICS are not. Regards Daniel [email][/email]

Hi. thanks for yopur feedback (plus all the other related info from from other member posts). I did buy a Saeco Royal Professional... but for the office not for my home. It is really good for a place where time is at a premium (but a little noisy).
