Breville machines, health problems.

Judging from my observations of the ever expanding Breville help me threads on another forum it seems 3 years is about the period of trouble free operation you can expect from one of these appliances, from this point the problems seem to come thick and fast.

The threads I'm referring to have reached biblical proportions and continue to grow.

I realise there are probably more Breville machines sold in OZ than all of the orher makes put together, regardless, the failure rate does seem high.

Yep... That's an astute observation.  At least Breville seems pro-active in responding to customer complaints.  Their social media department is the Slayer of the PR world!

By 3 Years Breville want you to upgrade to the next big thing don't they.  The problem is your previous $1000 investment is worthless or nearly.  At least with a traditional espresso machine you'll have something to sell when you upgrade plus when things go wrong you can have a go at fixing them yourself or take to them to any coffee machine repair tech. Breville will want you to take it to a general white goods repair place, and who knows how long that will take or if they know what they are doing!  My neighbour gave up and bought a new machine it took that long!

Yep... I know a "coffee connoisseur" who didn't even bother when his Smart Grinder failed an IQ test.  He binned it and side-stepped to a K3 push.  More of the throw-away society mentality than I could handle when he told me, so had to change the conversation.

To be honest he was probably right.  Anger Management posted a while ago from memory that the BSG isn't repairable by the users, and well at only $250 it's hardly worth a paid repairer to even look at it is it?  I hate sending stuff to landfill, I recycle what I can because I really think it's a waste (freecycle is great for that).  As a society we should be doing more than stuffing our junk in a big hole and forgetting about it.  It's a pity the big companies like Sunbeam and Breville aren't thinking about this too?  Instead it's rolling out a new rubbish must have appliance that goes in the cupboard, then the bin.  Maybe they should at least be forced to have or contribute to a recycle program.  We can recycle printer cartridges and mobiles phones at any Officeworks or the like which is great and convenient.

Sounds to me that the d00d did the right thing .. and probably regretted going the cheaper option with the Smart Grinder instead of the Compak K3 in the first instance. I've bean there .. thinking I'm saving .. but after half a dozen cheapies break down - you eventually get the message that it's better to get a good one to begin with that does a better job along the journey and lasts. I reckon .. anything under $500 isn't worth the repair. . whether coffee machine or grinder e.g. $85 to look at it with a fair chance of costing another $200 to repair. That's almost $300 plus the inconvenience towards a better new machine when the one you are getting fixed, being out of warranty anyway .. is likely to already be half way through its lifespan. Only decent quality machines are worth repairing these days imho.
