After the old forum software breaking in a way that we were unable to fix, we've migrated the site to a new platform.

Some elements aren't working as we'd hoped - some avatars didn't survive the transition, and we're still having issues with attachments that weren't added as inline images, but we're hoping to have that all sorted out soon.

More grist for the VST mill.

Further to the India Elephant hills Peaberry saga

http://coffeeforum.org.au/home-roasting-all-about-the-culture/india-elephant-hills-peaberry/msg49185/#new

It just happened that around the same time I started using the IEHP roast I noticed my 18 gram EP basket was letting a few grounds through into the cup (it has seen a lot of use) so I replaced it with my 18 gram VST, the only immediate difference I noticed was that the puck did not knock out cleanly.

Used the complete batch with the VST ans was less than happy with what I was getting in the cup, thin and watery with little body or flavour, started the new roast with a similar result.

Yesterday in desperation I changed back to the 18 gram EP basket, I'm not going to claim it turned a sows ear into a silk purse, however, I did experience an immediate improvement in flavour and viscosity as well as mouth feel.

Needless to say, I'll be ordering a new EP basket soon and the VST will be returned to its rightful home, the spare parts drawer. ;)

  • On a past thread of a new product that was an IMS laser cut competision water dispersion screen At the time I purchased one based on other users results  and had pleasing results after using it myself I have noticed that IMS is now producing competition laser cut baskets to pair up with the water screens May be worth a try as I am contemplating purchasing one from Dolo - http://dolo.com.au/t/brand/ims-filtri-spa I have not tried or purchased either the VST or EP baskets The only impediment is the internal diameter of the basket because my Pulman tamper is a matched set with my Synesso basket KK
  • I love my EP baskets.  I buy them direct from EP in the US which worked out much cheaper (at the time the AU dollar was high), especially if you buy a few sets for friends.  ;)  I initially sold mine with my Quickmill to Mark, and he wouldn't sell them back to me, so I had to buy some more!  I've heard varying opinion on the VST baskets. Some love them, others find then hard to work with.  With the price of $30+ per basket I can live without them. EP do a HQ shower screen too, but it's $100+ which it nuts!  Do these laser cut shower screen really do anything?
  • I could not live without my EP baskets Lacehim  got me........love the triple, seems to work well from the fullest dose
to the tiniest dose just covering the bottom never tried any other performance ones to compare.
