After the old forum software breaking in a way that we were unable to fix, we've migrated the site to a new platform.

Some elements aren't working as we'd hoped - some avatars didn't survive the transition, and we're still having issues with attachments that weren't added as inline images, but we're hoping to have that all sorted out soon.

Did the postman bring anything nice today?

edited January 1970 in Have your say
I kind of stole this from elsewhere, ok, not kind of, I did steal it from elsewhere  ^-^.

Did the postie/courier/delivery person bring you anything nice today?

Today I got my new tamper, nothing flash but a lot better than the one I had.

I also stole this pic from Google :D.

nice looking tamper Sue. What brand is that? Nothing in the mail today besides some party stuff my wife ordered for her baby shower on the weekend. She even had the nerve to ask me to move the coffee bar out of the way - I responded with "cancel the baby shower"
  • It is just a cheapie off ebay GeekKopi but it does real rather nice in the hand. http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Coffee-Tamper-Stainless-Steel-58mm-Blaze-Blue-CINO-/221525914302?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_15&hash=item3393f932be I would have thought your wife would like the coffee bar to cater to her guests  :thumb:.

She doesn't know how to use it and I won't be around (thank gosh) to cater coffee for 30 women.
  • You should stick around and help out  ;).
  • I got a few bits and bobs in the post from JCar today.  I'm waiting on some malachite/Chrysocola specimens but... That will be an exciting post.  Perhaps tomorrow.
  • I got my Behmor Plus coffee roaster in the mail yesterday and a new wide screen tv today  ;) ;) ;D Still haven't figured out how to work the telly but the roaster has had a workout ! Picking up my coffee machine from getting serviced tomorrow morning - I had a bunch of friends over last weekend and cranked out a dz coffees or so of my home roast with no problems so coffee bar definitely takes pride of place !
  • We have a Jaybar local to us, it is on my list of boring shops but hubby pops in sometimes when he needs something straight away  ^-^. It's been a good week for you Coffeeguy. How did the roaster go? I am thinking about one but it won't be for quite a while yet :).
  • yeah roaster is really good its definitely a step up from the gene cafe in terms of industrial heat source, even roast, and programability in terms of being able to adjust all the variables much more focused in terms of weights and measures - so need to be accurate as far as these variables go bit of a learning curve in terms of how it all works I just use the program settings for now - and extend the roast time as necessary, before hitting the cooling cycle - but I have been playing around with temperature dropping at the end of first crack so far so good will keep you posted! P
  • Sounds fun coffeeguy, I don't mind a bit of a tinker myself at times. It keeps things interesting  :P. As far as what came in the post....my coffee themed tin sign I ordered from ebay arrived.....bent. Seller has offered a replacement or a refund. That was the first of 3 things to go wrong today......Matt went for his learners license and failed and then when I went to pull Ben out of the car to go and pay a bill and he had been sick  :(. Edited to fix up mangled English. I knew I was stressed  ^-^.

Ugh, what a day!  I've had similar and come home to a house of illness.  My wife has a true whammy: hand, foot and mouth (thanks kids), tonsillitis and Glandular Fever which means she's in for a rash due to the antibiotics... Didn't even want her afternoon coffee... :/ kids are also in various viral stages of malaise. Me, I'm full of wine but still working to finish my week before starting work tomorrow on an opera.  The wine does help but I may be vocally underwhelming tomorrow....
  • sorry to hear regarding the sickness going around, hope everyone gets well quick

It was just the one sicky but he seems fine now. I always get paranoid when they start throwing up for seemingly no reason, I start looking for rashes, particularly at this time of year. Has the countdown started yet Geek?

Not long to go Sue. I'm sure it will be within a week. Everything is ready now. Baby seat is installed plus I put a sticker on the car. It's the baby from the hangover movie. ce7940d947c870edd67d6fe0eab465c4.jpg

So close, it is a very exciting time. I don't think I slept for a week before my last one because I knew exactly when he was going to be born. I didn't know if he was a boy or girl though. Love the baby on board sticker  ;D.
  • Today was a good day, 2 kgs of MyCuppa coffee and a couple of shot measuring glasses.

I got a MyCuppa delivery too!  Awesome Columbian which I've already tried and love it's chocolatey goodness.  The decaf...I might have now.... I also got my rocks:
  • Can confirm that the decaf is stunning!  If you don't believe me try some!  Only one shot to dial it in too.  Must be my lucky day!
  • Cheers Brett :coffee2:. My Roasters Choice was also a Colombian. Yummo. I might try the decaf next order . I love the pretty rocks. What are they?
  • The rocks are Chrysocola Malachite with hints of Quartz and Azurite. Some are only good for specimens but others will make stunning cabochons.  I'll post a picture if I get some time on the weekend to have a play.  Cheers!
  • Believe it or not I was thinking along the lines of malachite, not that I know anything about rocks but I do have a malachite heart shape pendant about the place  :).
  • Well not much to report - I went out and got some digital kitchen scales today to improve my roasting coz my coffee scales are &/$@#/*( Did what I thought was a 250g roast of India Elephant Hills on the weekend - but it was more like 400g - so I had to shut down the roast, run the cool cycle, and start again. I can honestly say I've never done that before ! Still I managed to get it up and running again and pulled the roast at the end of first crack,  and it's tasting good despite my expectations, so I guess that's a win ! Worked bar till 5 am on Sunday morning -  haven't done that for 20yrs or so - still managed to smash out the apple martinis and the mohitos and cosmopolitans though, so I must be doing something right !
  • I know nothing about roasting but I would have been tempted to keep it going and hope for the best  :coffee2:. Hopefully the new scales are far more accurate :).

couldnt keep going coz wrong batch size meant that the roast timer stopped short and you can only lengthen the profile by 2 minutes which is not long enough! looking after a sick kid today so no roasts as yet but soon, I promise! p
  • Ah, ok, now I know :). Sick kiddies are the worst. I hope junior is well soon :(.
