After the old forum software breaking in a way that we were unable to fix, we've migrated the site to a new platform.

Some elements aren't working as we'd hoped - some avatars didn't survive the transition, and we're still having issues with attachments that weren't added as inline images, but we're hoping to have that all sorted out soon.

Rancilio Silvia - Not Heating

edited January 1970 in Espresso Machines
Hi,

My Rancilio Silvia is not heating up anymore. I've tried the reset button without any joy so I imagine I need to get this serviced professionally.

I'm just wondering if anyone can recommend somebody that can service espresso machines on the Central Coast in NSW?

I'd also like to find someone that can adjust the pressure of the machine as per these postings:

Thanks in advance.

  • Hi Chris - thought I'd do a bit of investigation on your behalf on this... normally I would suggest that you contact the national importer/distributor to find out the name of one of their service agents, but in the case of Rancilio, there doesn't seem to be any one national distributor. In fact, it seems a bit disorganised, and the thing that makes it more complicated is that a lot of the importers sell mainly on the net, where you don't get much back-up service. Contacted Attilio [Fresh Coffee on the forum] and he gave the following response: there are 2 issues and 1 scenario. One is where you needs to get someone to replace a shorted electric element, and the other is where you ask the repairer to lower the water bypass pressure. The first is simple enough but expensive, the second is the one of the usual things that niggle at people that spend to much time reading the internet instead of enjoying their coffee...they read this stuff and think they're missing out on something because what they read tells them their machine is "not set up properly by the manufacturer", when in reality it is very possible that after the bypass pressure reduction has been effected, the owner may not even be able to tell the difference in the coffee or the behaviour of the machine. Either way, the end result is the same - namely that you should contact your retailer about servicing the machine. Not sure if that was the answer you were hoping for, but I respect Attilio's advice more than just about anyone else out there. Hope that helps -A
  • Hi, Thanks for the response and for taking the time to investigate on my behalf. To be honest, my first and foremost interest is to get the machine up and running again ASAP. I want a working espresso machine as I miss my caffeine. Re the pressure change, this is something I'd want to discuss further with a qualified technician after I've got my machine working again. It is not something I want to do just because I've read about it, it is not a whim. Long and short of it, I was posting in the hope that someone could help put me in touch with someone that can help get my machine working again. I've already searched to try and find my local retailer and come up blank so was hoping for a name, web site or email address.
  • where exactly are you?  you could try local roasters - many of whom have a in-house domestic machine repair facility, or else do a yahoo local search for coffee machine repairs in your area - let us know how you go. Pat
