After the old forum software breaking in a way that we were unable to fix, we've migrated the site to a new platform.

Some elements aren't working as we'd hoped - some avatars didn't survive the transition, and we're still having issues with attachments that weren't added as inline images, but we're hoping to have that all sorted out soon.

Breville Smart Grinder Pro - (replacing Sunbeam EM0480)

edited January 1970 in Grinders
Have previously posted that I was thinking of migrating from the Sunbeam product line to the Breville family....well thanks to Santa, the first dipping of the toe in the water has occurred.

While the Sunbeam EM7000 hasn't been relegated to the backbenches yet, the Grinder (EM0480) has now been replaced with a Breville Smart Grinder Pro.
Features that attracted me to the Breville before writing to Santa :
[li] ability to 'dial in' a dose...I can walk away while the group head is being filled[/li] [li]LCD display with easy to read indicators....who doesn't like pretty bells and whistles[/li] [li]a
hope that it would be quieter than the Sunbeam...[/li]
[li]a hope that it would be less messy than the Sunbeam....I have had the modified bottom of a plastic milk carton permanently attached to the Sunbeam to catch the 'stray' grinds[/li]

First impressions :
* The 'dial a dose' feature is brilliant and it should help with consistency in the long term.
* Pretty bells and whistles....'nuff said
* Definitely quieter than the Sunbeam as acknowledged by the Wife (keep in mind that the Sunbeam is several years old so not sure if it is a fair comparison)
* Definitely less messy than the Sunbeam with most grinds going directly into the Group Head.  The Sunbeam had a tendency (due to static electricity) to fire grinds all over the place....thus my requirement for the plastic milk container which was always an eyesore that never impressed the Wife.

Long term Members of this forum will know I am a Sunbeam fan and this is not an exercise in "Breville is better than Sunbeam"....or vice versa.  I'm just saying that the functions of the new grinder have met my expectations and perhaps now there is a reason to complete the migration with a Breville Dual Boiler (BES920).

Afterall, it's my Birthday in March  :-|

  • Excellent HG!!!  I used the Smart Grinder many moons ago and found it to be capable and user-friendly. The Breville stuff looks great too on the kitchen bench don't you think. I've got a Breville Microwave and it looks great!  I imagine that the newer Pro model is even better.  as to the Dual Boiler..... I'm a bigger fan of the Sunbeam but I know mix and match is not optimal for 'the look' :D
