If they served a latte glass sized shot.... id be in there like a flash!!! But also wouldnt be able to make it to work due to climbing of walls!! The Chicksta

there will definetly not be a change. there is a trend happening right now, however it is only a trend and it is only towards people asking for stronger coffees not shorter. you cant find a decent latte never mind a good bloody espresso! espresso sux

Adriano, You seem to have a very negative view on all espresso. Is there a reason why? You have a very negative attitude to be running a cafe. I hope this attitude doesn't reflect your espresso. :-/ Chicksta

I dont personally think we will have a shift in coffee preference as long as there is decaf skinny soy flat whites in a glass drinkers out there. Also unless we get another large influx of European immigrants into this country with their espresso drinking habits there will be no change. I am not sure what it is like over east, but in WA in the last 5 or so years we have had heaps of Eastern European immigrants mainly from the former Yugoslavia. They are typical Europeans with taste for most things european. They are the ones who come to the bar for a quick espresso and then they are off. That is not a common occurance where I work. Most customers come in order one cappucino and sit for over two hours with one coffee.(I have had a couple come in and order one flat white in two cups so they could share!!!! and sent it back 15 mins later saying it was too cold! Of course its cooler 15 mins later thats why you are supposed to drink it straight away) I dont believe we have an espresso culture here, people do like to sit and drink and espresso must be drunk pretty much imeadiatly. Are customers like this over east? so.......I cant think of a good enough word to describe them! thats my two cents worth 😛 Mimmo

Mimmo, Yes it is the same in the east except we have big coffee chain stores who serve coffee in 3 litre milk containers with a 30ml shot of mild roast in it. Ristretto 8)

Working in a building with over 4000 people in it i can say that customers these days are drinking strong coffee with half the amount of milk they used to,a lot,lot of macchiato and espresso are made too,but then we get some people asking for 12oz coffee (large one) but you know what they ask for them strong, so the point that i am getting to is australians (all of us)are drinking stronger coffee,but i love my ristretto cant live with out my daily shot.ahhhh

chicksta, negative view on espresso? you only think i have a negative view on espresso because of the comments i make on this site. the comments are made because of the things i read on this forum. let me tell you some of the bullshit i read about extraction, espresso, tampers, lavazza, aroma festivals, $1 coffees, soy de caff, etc etc, makes me think that actually i am the one in the one in the perfect position to capitalise on the fact that we at piccolo padre serve one of the best tasting coffee's one will taste in the world. if we have a problem with the taste- it is because we have a bean issue-not anything else. everyone should have there espresso bar place of work underneath their name so we can try the coffee. let me tell you- ACTION SPEAK LOUDER THAN WORDS. regards, little fatherx

errrr well i dont want to get into this thing with adriano and chicksta but.... with regards to your comment on listing your place fo work or identifying yourself... I think that an interesting comment... looking at the membership list of this site there is only a few members (including myself) who list their real names, and hence their aliances with roasters, coffee distributors etc.

Well I must say that adriano has a point, being invisible is a nice and fluffy place to be you can throw rocks and nobody can see. I am not a barista I enjoy coffee and move over I am terminalally interested. I concur with adriano that identifing your affiliations would make this a more truthful forum. As i have stated before, I have relocated interstate and I am having a little break before I start again. Next time im in Sydney Adri, Ill be sure to pop in and have one of your 'worlds best' coffees. As ive stated many times before, I am young, ive only been in the game for a little over a year now, but that DOES NOT make me naive in any way at all when it comes to extracting or tasting espresso. As for the nice fluffy place to hide on the internet, my name is Kylie and it is listed as my email address and chicksta was a name given to me by my trainers as barista is very male oriented..... and ya know what, its starting to show. So what im a girl, but that doesnt mean that my skill level, dedication as passion towards espresso is any less then that of a great male barista. After that, im off to get a double ristretto. p.s. im not usually a nasty little so and so, but it seems like some of the males on this forum seem to think they are all that and a bag of Illy..... think out side the coffee cup you live in, you could be pleasantly surprised Chicksta

I have noticed a trend amongst my customers (albeit a small trend) towards espresso. Anyone who drinks a truck load of coffee will, in my opinion at least, soon become sick of all the milky bits that go in their (and don't get me started on hormones, pesticides, and herbicides) Me, I like my milky coffees as much as the next milkmaid (or milkman for that matter), in fact my tipple of preference is a double ristretto three quarter machiattoni (I don't even know what that means, but I drink it all the same), and I am increasingly being won over by the charms of espresso and ristretto - especially of the single origin variety. But that's just me. Anyone else feel the same? ACG

Not sure about others, but for me once I tasted a great shot.. there was no turning back, I'm all about shots now - no need to add milk and ruin it.. or if it's bad - pan out a bad tasting drink.
