After the old forum software breaking in a way that we were unable to fix, we've migrated the site to a new platform.

Some elements aren't working as we'd hoped - some avatars didn't survive the transition, and we're still having issues with attachments that weren't added as inline images, but we're hoping to have that all sorted out soon.

What Coffee are you roasting this week

I will gladly roast some up for you if you get to low KK
  • Roasted three weeks ago.....but Monsoon Malabar is what I'm drinking at the moment. I'd never had it before. It's....different, that's for sure.
  • I just did some more Peru and I also did the Nicaragua La Gloria Las Brisas, it smells very sweet and surprisingly it does have a crispness to it, as much as you can smell crispness, I don't know how else to explain it :)

I found the Nicaraguan beans a touch flat on my first try. What roast level did you take them to, and drink as espresso, or syphon?
  • I did them as an espresso for the first go, I pulled them right on the first sound of 2C which was 15 minutes.  1C was at 9 through to 11 minutes.

Cool. Can you let me know what it's like once you try it? Thanks.
  • Thanks for the roasting offer AM & KK but I purchased some beans on Thursday. As it seems I'm not doing such a bad job compared to these beans anyway  ;)
  • 315 gms Yemen Al-Hajj Boa'an 360 gms Flores Gunung Inerie post blended
  • You should be seeing some stuff from that dodgy Basmati rice bloke in the next day or so.
  • Going home to do my first roast in MONTHS I hope I still remember how it is done. Thinking for safety stainless bowl and spoon roast of MTE478 is in order to ease back into it  :)
  • 600g Ethiopian Guna Limmu in two batches in the behmor, taken to second crack. That'll get me through the week...just.

  • Roasted 315g Laos Dong Hua Sao two days ago. Blended with a one week old Ethiopian Guna Limmu 50/50 - WONDERFUL. Roasted 300g Java Ijen and blended with 300g Ethioipian Guna Limmu yesterday. Will cup once my other blend is finished. Next roast will (hopefully) be Bolivian (you reading, Jeff? :P )

Oh how I want a commercial roaster! Hopefully I can at least come remotely close to your roast with my humble home equipment and (much) smaller batch.
  • Richard here is what I can get from a non commercial roaster :) I think it's pretty good but who knows really, I'm still too much of a newbie I think :) I did the following on the weekend, well Friday and it's turned out fairly sweet with still a chocolate smell and taste. Nicaragua La Gloria Las Brisas Minutes    Heat  Fan  Temperature 0-8    7 4.5 180 8-11         7.5 4.5 188 1c 11-13 7.5 4 195 13-15 8 4 205 I pulled it before second crack which it would have been very close to.
  • A tasting report on the Colombia Andes Santa Rita Before I post my report Please note that I have a preference for milk based coffee but have cupped on lots of occasions Roasted just into second crack Using the Syphon I found it very nice and smooth coffee It has a fine chocolate tint with a hint of sweetness but that sweetness may have come to me from inhaling the essence, overall very delicate and this time my pallet could no pick anything else In a milk drink, its remarkably the same but a little muted It does not cut through the milk as some other beans do Overall its a very delicate and pleasant in the cup KK
  • Turbo roast Ethiopian yirgacheffe Special Prep 600g pulled before second crack nice even roast good looking well sorted bean.   Gra..
  • Too many to mention, except a new Tanzania AA from TEC Estate - first trial roast the other night - what a cracker - BF will be my lab rat next week !
