I for one wish Breville all the luck in the world I say this from an Australian point of view on an Australian design by an Australian company exporting to the world & god knows we need that Pity it is not made by Australians I hope the design will stand the test of time, I have not made any comments preferring to wait a while and see how it all pans out with every day use by all types of users KK

The USD to AUD thing is partially offset by margins but also by the 5% duty and then the 10% GST compounding to 15.5% of the difference so $200+ of the rise is easy to explain. I don't think it has been mentioned here yet but Mark Prince of Coffeegeek fame has done a review here http://coffeegeek.com/proreviews/firstlook/brevilledualboiler still paints a overly rosy picture of it in some ways as the proof of all appliances is in the medium to longer term.

G'day Tim, read this first look the other day, Mark states early on that (This is not meant to be a review and is based on a late prototype machine. reads just like another marketing review 2 year warranty is good but will it still be just another expensive throw away appliance most breville repairers wont know how to fix it, let alone understand how it works

Same goes here - I'd be happy to review! I've only owned a Lelit in "proper" espresso machines, so it would be good to see just what double the price gets. I too have a dedicated coffee station that would fit both machines. I really want this machine to be good, and I think on paper and initial impressions, it will be. The real proof, as most people here are saying is in the longevity of the machine.

I am still quietly excited about the BDB. I am hoping it will speak for itself when it's out there being reviewed and used and being an early adopter I'm hoping I won't have to eat humble pie ;D

I'd be interested to have a play on one - I'm often asked to recommend equipment through my cafe and around this pricepoint it's always been the Rancilio Silvia or the Sunbeam cafe series, to date, as I've spent a fair bit of time on both these machines - and whilst the sunbeam has it's faults it is still capable of making very good coffee, and the after sales service is excellent It will be interesting to see how the breville dual boiler stacks up - would love to do a side by side comparison !

Some will want to be first cab off the rank I am sure regardless of anything written or suggested anywhere so it would make sense to take orders. If someone I knew was looking at one specifically I would be going with the wait a month or two option regardless of the product or the company. First production runs do carry a slight additional risks. Not a customer of Matts either just my thoughts on first run appliances.

I honestly can't see what is unusual about it, a lot of companies do pre-orders. A company needs to gauge the response to make sure that they can cater for demand, imagine only ordering five and when the product is released you have 20 orders. We all know what happens when Apple releases a product, stores make out that they can only order a certain amount which means that it looks like there is a higher demand than there really is as the line is 'oh they are so popular we sold out'. Obviously I'm not saying that the above is what stores are doing with the BDB but a good business makes sure that they can at least come close to catering for demand.

Oh and by the way E61 isn't the only one taking pre-orders (with deposits).

I understand. it just sounded strange that they tell you not to buy their offer. I will probably buy this machine. My silvia is too slow when I have friends over.

I don't know Matt personally so this is just a personal opinion from what I've seen of him through the forums. I feel that Matt wants people to be completely happy with anything they purchase from E61 and if this means telling them his honest opinion then he will. As with anything that first comes out. you expect problems, I have my fingers crossed that there won't be. When people find out about problems the nay sayers will come out in force saying 'I told you so', the problem might be something really really simple to fix but it won't stop the negativity and it 'might' turn people away from a purchase that would actually suit them. If I'm out of line with the above someone let me know. It's just how I feel at present about what people have been saying elsewhere and the responses from people that should know better. The other thing I will say is before you commit to buying anything anywhere make sure you know what you are getting for how much ;D

Hi Matt If the road-test machine is coming up to Queensland, I'd love to have a play for a week or so and be able to give my perspective as a previous owner of a Sunbeam 6910, Maver Marte E61, Lelit and now NS Musica. You know where I live... 😉 Cheers Di

Have they got an official date for this to be released to the public yet? Maybe we could have a gathering is SE Qld and play with it? I would love to check it out and I imagine others would too.

Latest ETA seems to be end July or beginning August. As always, subject to change. You can bet it will be delayed if there are production probs - after all the build up, they will be extra careful to make sure the initial shipments are up to spec and I'm guessing at 100% testing prior to leaving the factory.
