After the old forum software breaking in a way that we were unable to fix, we've migrated the site to a new platform.

Some elements aren't working as we'd hoped - some avatars didn't survive the transition, and we're still having issues with attachments that weren't added as inline images, but we're hoping to have that all sorted out soon.

So yes we will still be buying one, it's just a matter of who from and when, I'm trying very hard to be very patient.
It might pay you to hit up your local HN etc pronto and see if they can secure you one if you want one straight away. Also depending on the costs too if it was my hard earned $$ going down the big retail path extra warrantee might be worth it too.
  • 1st delivery is still slated for Aug 1st (fingers crossed) The first order quantity is approx 257 units (a 20 footer)

There is only 257 units available as the total first shipment Maybe David can post the stores that will stock them ? even the third speciality retailer I get the feeling that the 2 speciality retailers that we know of wont be getting ant of shapeshifters money S/S originally wanted to shop with E61 KK

We'll certainly post the first stores ASAP. With the moving target of stock, we're not quite able to do this just yet. I hope to add a page to our site that we can update with stockists as distribution builds. The other specialist is a guy in Brisvegas, funnily enough called the coffeeguy. PS see you at Aroma.
  • I seriously think Breville have "Apple" syndrome.  The marketing is the same, talking up a new product via forums, leaking info and then you find they don't have tons of stock and it becomes the next most wanted item but no one really knows why they really needed it a few months after.  ;) Seriously guys the Breville Dual Boiler is just a coffee machine.  There are plenty like it out there, some cheaper, some stupidly expensive, go try a few different machines and then decide on what to buy.  Go buy a nice grinder, brew your coffee using a different method and enjoy it.  No point getting upset about all this, the machine isn't even in the market place yet, and is yet untested in the real market. It's all about the coffee in the end and how it tastes to you.  It's not how much you've spent on the machine or what some marketing guys says you need that really matters. Anyway we all know lever's rule. :)  ;D  :D
  • ROFL Lacehim  :P yep levers rule  ;D I will have to clarify I am looking at a few other new ones even though my OH says that the Breville ticks all the boxes. The others I am looking at do have some of the same features but there are known issues with them and if they haven't fixed them then I won't go that way. The advantage now I guess is that while I am patiently waiting and looking the BDB will be out there being used and if there are problems we'll be alerted to them and then at the final stage when I know the BDB is available to me I'll be able to buy without any doubts (although I didn't have any to start off with). Lacehim I'm pretty sure I've said the same thing about the 'apple' syndrome too :) It will be really interesting to see what happens in the appliance stores since they have all reported slumps in sales in a big way.  I can still see lots sitting on shelves until the next sales.

Goes without saying. Simple machines for us simple Baristas  ;D
  • Hi guys - one of the posts that was lost [see 'Have your say'] was one of mine; Would just like to re-iterate an earlier request that we keep this thread on topic - ie focussed on the merits (or otherwise) of Breville's machine [which I'm sure is eagerly awaited]. thanks in advance A
  • If one is available & you set up a demonstration  day AM I will come KK
  • what is the life expectancy of this breville unit
  • on 1311056307:
what is the life expectancy of this breville unit
That's the million $ question with all espresso machines without a real answer as there is no data. I seem to remember that a preproduction unit had been put through multi 1000 cycles but it is when in the hands of the average member of the general public that real testing begins.
  • the common problem with appliance importers is that the parts are only available for 3 to 5 years, and some parts not available at all for instance the breville smart grinder was extolled as being better than grinders twice the price, but if it fails outside of the warranty period, then it goes in the bin, as no working parts are available So it doesnt have a good life expectancy
  • Got one yet AM  ;D
  • have people actually had delivery of these yet? If I read David's post correctly, first units were expected about now. If so am interested to hear about their experiences... does it live up to expectations? A

Stock was being picked at Breville yesterday, so will arrive at retailers either today or early next week.  I would expect they will be in their new homes very shortly thereafter.

PS. If DJ can sell the Smart Grinder for $150  (special ? ) I am yet to see, but understand this is the case  ??? Then I wonder what deals will happen with the BES 900 at X-mass time....
I know Joyce Maine will sell it cheaper!  Buy a grinder, get a FREE breville DB.  ;D :D  :o  Oh, and  you'll probably have to buy it at the car park sale too and get shouted at by numerous add on TV about a secret sale!  Shhhhh, don't tell anyone. Only joking.  Is it any wonder aren't shopping as much?  Anyone else sick of the sale? Has anyone actually got them yet anyway?  Or are we still talking about freshair and sunshine?

was going to be 270 units for this first shipment apparently dR
  • I'm still waiting to see the list of retailers...
  • on 1312551455:
Well as the local Qld Speciality shop has got 30, then add in the two retailers from CS... (NSW and VIC). Let alone other Speciality shops in other states... Thus not many left for ALL the BIG chains (HN, Myer, DJ etc etc)  to to put on the shelves across Australia.. Or was the 270 for Speciality shops alone ?
The large chains should have about 50% in toto.  I suppose that means they will be fairly thin on the ground for a little while.  Perhaps wait for the sale Joyce Mayne have at Christmas as per Lacehim's suggestion? (only joking). SS - you could either contact the QLD retailer AM speaks of or approach your local Good Guys store.  Apparently it was in their catalogue a few weeks ago as they were accepting pre-orders.
  • Handy to know GoodGuys will be stocking as they normally beat written quotes / advertised prices - web prices included  ;)

Which at this point in the game means if they had stock, you could get one for $1499 with their usual after sales support.  ;)

Agree and 2 years warranty managed by Breville  ;)
Warranty is managed by Breville irrespective of who sells the machine.   When the Good Guys are able to come up with a good quality tamper that can be tucked away as per the one supplied with the machine, or are available to answer a question from a purchaser outside their regular trading hours, etc., let me know.  ;)
  • My Pullman tamper is all I need. I shop online for everything except groceries unless there are significant savings to be had in store. And, there are better prices to be had than the RRP of $1499...

Darn it!  I have a concert.  Take lots of photos/videos and remember that here you can speak the truth... sure you'll cop some flack from the businesses that have a vested interest but they can't hack your account ... can they?  Perhps sugar coat it if there is something you don't like.... sugar and Italian Espresso are not uncomon bedfellows.  Look forward to your take on the machine!

Will shoot back some further thoughts and observations after a more detailed look see.  But NO pics and it will be only a demo, not a take home and trial / review at this stage  ;)
Shame we will have to wait for a REAL independant review... guess the home-user reviews will start popping up soon though.
  • Well you would have had a whole blog from me, but alas things didn't go to plan, still interested to hear AMs point of view on it. I was also interested to see the early comments from others over there, my OH laughed at the software bug, he'd have to pull it apart and make it better, and also the other thing, which I already did know but hadn't thought about for a while and that is people don't get that it's not a push a button and everything works, you have to actually play around a bit to get the ideal pressure etc. the grind needed is also coarse than what people would think, well coarser than what I would have thought when I played with it combining with my tamping.
  • Now to beg the wife for 'shore leave!' Thanks AM
  • LOL Brett, tell her it's research and development in making sure that what you have is the best  ;D
  • So I guess the 'freshair and sunshine' is now a reality. Nice to see it's getting so much attention. 'Independent review'?  Looking forward to hearing how anyone would like to define that term.

'Independent review'?  Looking forward to hearing how anyone would like to define that term.
Excerpt: Independent review is the practice of having an expert, but independent evaluation of a set of results or artifacts produced by an author or organization.[1] The practice appears in a large number of fields, including science, engineering, public policy, finance, medical practice, etc. In science, the term is often used synonymously with peer review.[2] The term is sometimes used to contrast it with an "in-house review" performed by someone inside an organization.[3][4][5][6] and: Conflicts of interest It is considered common knowledge that financial interests affect research results, and many people believe that funding can influence a scientist's findings. In the well known tobacco industry case, manufacturers funded studies seeming to prove that tobacco smoking was harmless. Scientists whose funding did not come from tobacco companies eventually proved a link between smoking and cancer. The British Medical Journal reported that, "Systematic bias favours products which are made by the company funding the research."[8] See here for further details: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Independent_review FWIW, I am still interested in the BDB but I am also interested in a few other machines. An independent review would help me make my decision.
