Some elements aren't working as we'd hoped - some avatars didn't survive the transition, and we're still having issues with attachments that weren't added as inline images, but we're hoping to have that all sorted out soon.

What's wrong with this photo?

I guess no servo coffee is going to live up to the standard but at least make the posters look the part!

See how many problems you can pick!

  • Morning Greg, Don't get me started on service station coffee, after my recent road trip I'm hoping I never have to drink the stuff again, overpriced low quality swill. Re the photo, the main problem I see is with her pouring technique and inattention to the task at hand, I'm sure there must be others however I cant pick them. Guess the marketing people don't really care about those within the industry, its the general public they have in their sights, as we all know the bottom line is the name of the game. :)
  • Mmmm love me a bucketochino at the servo  :P :P :P Our local servo has a badly tuned fully auto using dubious stale beans they have stacked on top of the machine in bags to keep them warm  ::). There is a couple of roadhouses on the Geelong road I occasionally stop at for a snack and have actually braved a coffee at after watching whoever is making a coffee (I have had worse). If you see to much wrong go the drinks fridge.
  • Hmm there's some weird karma going on here... just got an order from these people! :o

    Life's a bit of a mystery at times. ;)
  • Its all photo-shopped I tell ya All of it Nothing is real  ::) ::) KK
  • Not all servo coffee is r/s. Those of you needing a fill on your way to the Mornington Peninsula, or on your way back from Mornington heading into Melbourne can stop off at Oz Cafe at the Caltex 854 Mooroduc Highway. Trust me, the beans are top-shelf and ultra fresh (they take deliveries that are 24hrs off the roaster each week) and their quality auto is pouring a surprisingly fine cup.

I'm sure there are rare exceptions (I've yet to find one) during my run a few weeks back on a motor bike, in very cold weather, from Moonta SA to Melb then Tocumwal NSW and back to Moonta, over 3000km I sampled the offerings of quite a few service stations, without exception the offerings were terrible. Perhaps metropolitan servo's are a little more in touch than their rural cousins. ;D
  • This seems a good thread that could keep going with more photo's. Recently, i was moaning to the other half about the large photo (probably half a door size)  on the window of a new coffee shop that was going to open.  It was of a cappuccino and the froth was very airy (you could jump through the holes) and just horrible looking. I walked past it nearly everyday and it always bugged me. Well, the cafe never opened, husband and wife divorced.
  • Marriages need more than froth and bubble to stay together...  ::) OK I had the benefit of seeing the original but the things I saw wrong with that photo were: 1) as BF mentioned, ring of foam around the top of the jug (how long was the milk left there before pouring?) 2) foam in the jug itself is lumpy 3) steam wand is sparkling clean but there's no sign of a cloth anywhere so presumably the machine in the photo hasn't even been used 4) as Dry Bean mentioned, the barista isn't even looking at what they're doing!
  • pretty funny. maybe this should be expanded to cover other things [eg signs] - some that come to mind are the ones like: 'Voted the best coffee in Sydney' - voted by whom, the Karioke Messagenger  perhaps??? dR :o
  • Try and Spot the Wrong and the strange in this one...
Green beans and nuts are not good for grinding Blade grinder Plastic tamper Paper cup Why are you making coffee in the garage Whats the lemon drink for (are you making tea) KK
  • on 1311816441:
At least another  "6" to go KK  ;D
Is there any water in the machine Electrical danger Plastic card in the grinder (that wont taste any good) 2 items electrical on the desk 5 plugs used No pressure on the gauge Cant see but you may be using a blind filter KK
  • That portafilter won't fit that machine. A sunbeam's PF has its lugs at 9 and 3.
  • Isn't the plural of barista 'baristi' rather than baristas?

In English it's barista's in Italian baristi. ;)
  • The jug has some kind of clear liquid in it.
  • on 1311842289:
Yes and it is LARGE for the EM6910  ;D One more minor issue to go..
    It's out of water?
  • No roasted beans in sight.
  • no beans or coffee grind of any type in sight, aluminium tampers on top of coffee machine (as opposed to a work surface), hi groups suggest bucketchino's and cold coffee by the time it hits the cup (not that there's any ceramic in site either...)

The last one is the quality basket on the warming tray.. Care to identify it  ::)
    basket of chips?
  • Was waiting around..... and decided to have a look at this cafe which was closed for the day. Took a photo. (their should be 2 grinders in the photo viewable) 2cglvmo.jpg
  • Wow, 2 Mazzers... Classy establishment.  They are obviously well prepared also given the tomorrow's coffee has been ground today.  Great foresight on the part of the BaristA.  The steam wand also sports an "is it worn chrome or is it milk scum" allure.  A fun guessing game for the customers no doubt.
  • Of course there's no crumbs, the cockies ate them all.
  • I'm with AM. Surely that can't be ground coffee in the doser chamber......it's a mazzer and it's clean, so there you have it.....technically impossible. Barely a spec of ground coffee anywhere on the outside. I know it's a sad tale, but 85% of cafes still do the same trick - letting the doser chamber fill up so it's ready to go first thing in the morning. Most popular excuse I hear is "I hate the noise it makes".
  • They should upgrade to a grinder like mine.  ;D Actually, I think the ' grind one dose ahead' feature of the Azkoyens is really useful in a commercial environment, especially if staff training is limited. Maybe that is why you see them in the likes of Michels and GJs
  • I am going to give the steam wand the benefit of the doubt  As everything is spick and span clean It could be brass showing under the chrome due to over cleaning with a scourer I will take it all back if its a Stainless Steel steam wand  :stir KK
  • lol at some of the comments. It sure is gunk on that wand, I was nearly tempted to lean over and scrape a bit with my fingernail but security may of come running. Have noticed some (from a distance) coffee art at that place in the past but coffee isn't all about the presentation is it. At least they are well organized with the pre-grounding.

Can you see something that I can't?  I see no customers at all!
  • To be fair, if the time on the clock is correct, it's either before the shopping centre is open, or late at night after a time when most people are generally wanting coffee.

Its night time, this cafe probably shut around 5.30 around the same time as all the other shops in this growing mall, however one large store remains open till 9.
