After the old forum software breaking in a way that we were unable to fix, we've migrated the site to a new platform.
Some elements aren't working as we'd hoped - some avatars didn't survive the transition, and we're still having issues with attachments that weren't added as inline images, but we're hoping to have that all sorted out soon.
I have just lurked here as i dont have much to add. I work for an outlet which sells Breville. We are a big retailer and receive a hefty rebate on sales. We can sell at wholesale and still make money anyway.
Sounds like you do Caffeinated... I have kept mum on this for a looooong time, and I don't want to start a fire, but if those small retailers didn't see this coming then they were a little naive or deluded... Target small retailers who are sponsors (active posting sponsors) of a very large coffee forum... HELLO........ :pan

Now I could be wrong However it does appear that they were taken advantage of That advantage was baited of promises that fell short of expectations (Just like the- Dr Who The Horns of Nimon 4 Episodes) Anyway we all live and learn Hopefully lessons learned KK

I specifically made light of the point that they wouldn't be able to cope once the big retailers started pushing them in that way. They shot me down and told me I was wrong.

And the worst thing is There is probably no record of it as many of those comments and replies were deleted in bulk You cant go and make further comment now and say " I told you so" KK
After all no one is truly a winner unless you have shares in Breville or a big Super fund.
Breville is the winner and Breville made sure that that would be the case with a cleverly conceived pre production marketing plan. They got a buzz happening, and if you are in marketing I would imagine that is your job. Did they hurt the small retailers? No...

I don't know about that. I have an opinion. It's not terribly high at this point in time. Breville shares are worth a look AM. I had a look but stuck with banks at lower prices (Westpac had a PE of 7 not so long ago and a FF dividend of as near as matters to 10%). I'm convinced they are a good company but... Retail sector and discresionary spending are in decline plus: "If I'm going to drop 1k on a coffee machine I want a big auto that makes it for me damn it." I'm positive there is a market for this very capable little machine: does anyone else get the feeling that we were the testing ground for an assault on the US market? It would surely be the only way to recoup the R&D/first run dollars. Or am I way off the mark?
think you're right AM - am pretty sure Breville's marketing strategy was to get 'in' with the aficionados, with the assumption (or hope) that they will then tell all their friends and create a groundswell of consumer interest along the way, maybe also saving themselves $$ on advertising to the general public... whether this has worked or not, it's hard to tell - I've got no idea ?? dR
