That is still cheap advertising for the USA. Oprah used to give things away all the time. If she endorsed a product, it was guaranteed success.. I suppose Ellen is the show everyone watches now, it certainly is in my household (3F, 1M). Anyway, a great marketing strategy just before Xmas. ;D

At the moment i don't have a strong interest in the Breville Dual Boiler, but going through a number of big chain stores like David Jones, Myers, Retravision, Good Guys and Harvey Norman have turned up zilch, zero here in WA. Whenever i go shopping for items at those stores, and i have been to a number of them in various locations, I asked them do they know about the Breville BES900, they give me a blank look and said no. They don't offer to look into it and see if they can source one for me. I have asked some fellow coffee friends, and they came up with the same answer, and none of the specialist coffee stores stock it. If I was to actually get one of those, I'd have to order one from the other forum's sponsors and get it sent over. Gary at G

Gary, I don't think they sell the BES900 anymore as discounting killed their profit. I am not surprised that in the Wild West you have not seen this machine. The dept stores over there sell truckloads of pod machines and superautos. I have friends who now manage some of the electrical depts in the big stores and franchises, and they mentioned that coffee machines were a huge growth market in the West. The pricier the superauto, the more "cred" it had. The mining boom is certainly helping retail in the West.

There sure is a hell of a lot of superautos here everywhere. I was expecting one or two stores to stock the BES900 at least. I did see it on one junkmail issue by the Good Guys, and then when i enquired about it, no one seems to know about. It had a decent exposure on one page displaying a discounted price of $1449 at that time. Gary at G

Wrong. She was giving away our recently released BDC600XL, a drip filter coffee machine with an grinder on board, with carafe & single serve feature. Cheers, Phil

The Episode aired yesterday or day before, as part of the 2011 - 12 days of Christmas giveaways Ellen also pulled a shot with the machine Phil - I can definitely say that it was not a drip filter machine However it may have been the BES830XL ( So I apologise if I am wrong) as they look almost the same You may have been watching or know of a different episode The items may have been given away by a retail chain & not direct from Breville KK

Looks awesome... the presenter does a good job but when when she says 'u-bru' I am transported back to my Uni days and an Christchurch ex-pat who refused to neutralise his accent despite our elecution/phonetics training.

Ahh well there you go I dont watch the program - my wife & girls do :tearhair: In my defense they only show a few seconds and move on to the next item They all look the same The BES 900 should look a little more sporty to tell the difference KK

If i was a audience member and drink drip filter coffee with instant as par for the course of american culture, I'd be happier with that than the BES900. The BES 900 is certainly designed for the well informed (super engaged) minority group such as ourselves. BTW, while christmas shopping, i managed to find a BES900 finally, at a store here in WA. Price? RRP$1559.00. Was nice to see it at long last anyway. Gary at G

Well the Christmas break was just what I needed - OPV adjusted thanks to all the good resource on this forum - we are consistantly (even before OPV adjust) getting cracker shots on this machine. Still very happy with it and if we won lotto tomorrow I wouldn't have it on my list of things to change. Just now need a naked portafilter and we will be all done for 2012 🙂 - AJ

Bloody hell... That looks very impressive. I commend small retailers who had a go competing with the Big Boxes and I think that had Breville helped these guys out a little more the pay-off would have been a world beating MkII... Bit perhaps that unit is already sitting on SS' bench. Having said all that im sure support in some form was forthcoming from Breville but it obviously wasnt enough. Mostly however I'd dearly love to put one of these on the bench next to my DB or a serious HX and have a serious play. Not now obviously... We're like having a baby...

You really just have to laugh when you read something like this. How would you even know what support Breville did or did not supply to the non "Big Box" stockists?? As usual, sweeping statements with no actual knowledge! I can tell you one fact, not one non Big Box stockist provided any feedback that did or would have, changed the final package in any shape, form or function. Cheers, Phil

Think its all academic now Phil, the die has been cast and there's no going back. From the reports I've read the machine has been very well received and owners have been for the most part delighted with them. :thumb:
