IPad 3

Lacehim

Ipad3 personally, they aren't much more, the screen is better, and the camera. The iPad2 camera is average at best. Some apps/games are already using the extra processing power of the iPad3. As iOS gets updated you'll find the iPad2 will get left behind. Apple did the same with the 3GS where some features can't be installed on it. KK, do a speedtest at www.speedtest.net and post up the results. Any youngsters in your family download torrents???

First test - while on Skype Followed a couple of minutes later with second test / after Skype session finished Update As we are talking now on Skype to Los Angeles USA This is after the restart performed last night (re Hatchys method) Video is working good now (touch wood) However in past occasions it would be good at the beginning and degrade with time

We have a 2 and a 3 at home and there isn't much between the two to be honest. Yeah the cameras are great but still not in the league of my D200. I'd still go for a three to cope with the os upgrades for longer or be prepared to turn em over earlier.

KK - Looked at your speedtest. A bit jealous as I just downloaded the app to my phone and tested. At home/wi-fi: 1425kbps down, 433kbps up, 59ms ping. On 3G: 771kbps down, 592kbps up, 145ms ping. Home PC on wired LAN: 1.36Mbps down, 0.38Mbps up, 33ms ping

Okay guys, thanks for the feedback; Brett, I'm not too worried about the cameras - the main thing for me is whether you can tell much of a difference between the screens cheers dR

Side by side? Absolutely. Whether it'll matter to you in day to day life is another matter. I would personally go the new one.

TO be honest, I can't tell the difference between them even when side by side unless there's an optimized app or page. My wife however tells me that mine is much clearer??

Kelsey

To me the difference in crispness of text is pretty massive. Particularly important if you do a lot of reading.

I'm still out on the iPad3. Especially with the 4G issues. Hoping they may do something about that soon, or at least by the time I get one for myself in July/August. I may just get myself one anyway lol

The Ipad is 4G And will also work on any current Australian system Its up to your carrier to offer 4G KK

Bit of a catch there: http://www.zdnet.com.au/why-the-new-ipad-wont-be-4g-in-australia-339333239.htm

I just ordered an iPad3 as a replacement for the 2 the kids dropped! Only wifi model. Also the iPad3's 3G speeds are faster than 4G in the US in some places. It's been reported as being a lot faster than the iPad2.

Kelsey

Yep. 4G is just another marketing term - its meaning is variable and on par with 15 bar pumps. "They have 15 bar? we'll make ours 20!" Can't wait till my 75bar machine arrives in 2015. 30ml in 30 microseconds!! Just need the cups with the reinforced bases...

No, it's a standard (or, more precisely, a generation of standards) set by the ITU. It requires a carrier to upgrade infrastructure and devices to the 4G standard to use that terminology. For example, 'Wi-Fi' is a marketing brand but IEEE802.x refers to the standards which governs wireless communications that Wi-Fi refers to. 4G allows for speeds of up to 100Mbps, but it is up to the carrier whether they will provide the data plans to access that bandwidth. There are other factors in mobile communications which would explain why a 3G service could provide a faster speed than a 4G service.

There are some real gems in free apps One I recently found is Roambi Flow - It's primarily for analitics I thought that it would be great for cafe visit reports Home Roast tasting views ect I don't profess to be an expert on this app but I am learning KK

Sorry, you're right of course. It's that fudge factor I'm speaking to - 4G, like 3G before it - is presented as a definitive expectation of speed improvement as opposed to something influenced by the capabilities or whims of a carrier.

Great service from Apple again. Ordered ipad3 yesterday, arrived today 🙂 Can't get better than that, and restoring from a backup, easy upgrade, no stuffing about.

Yes, I should have said i accepted your point. Device makers will try to add numbers to their products to give them a gee-whizz factor that is not always delivered on or doesn't give a true indication of performance. Having a 4G device doesn't necessarily mean you are receiving data faster than a 3G device.
