The only person I knew who had a $100+ bottle of red as his main home quaffer (and kept a heap in the house) didn't have the palate to tell the difference between it and $20 red. It was always for show, just so he could say the name.
I did work at a company where one of the VPs regularly spent more than that on wine for home. He COULD tell the difference, just happened to have the dosh that made it possible to indulge. Nice chap actually. We had regular friday beer bashes at work and he would often bring in a few bottles. I wasn't actually in the engineering group hosting those bashes, but worked closely with a few of them so had the option of attending and while others were swigging coors, a few of us were thoroughly enjoying well cellared Riojas and the like. Just looked him up actually and he still runs wine tastings in Silicon Valley. Currently a CEO and former venture capitalist, lets just say he aint exactly strapped for cash. So there is a market for exclusive and high end products, just relatively small BF - I am pretty sure Liar Liar charged me $7.50 for a geisha (pourover), but that is from memory. I wouldn't bother buying and roasting myself, better to trust that to a reputable establishment (in this case it was from Market Lane - who only roast to order incidentally).
