    Sorry to reopen an old thread.  If you are still willing to post up any documentation/guides/info on the 6910 it would be greatly appreciated.  Especially any details regarding your steam mod, or other mods you may have made. Thanks

    I have the collar replacement instructions, which I think I will soon have to do.  Did I read somewhere that the EM 7000 collar will fit? I am mainly interested in your steam mod, what is involved and what parts are required. What is the best descale solution to use? As mine has had no maintenance done in a long time. I removed the shower screens and it was filthy.

    Welcome B74 - suggest you stop, take a deep breath and spend many hours reading everything you can find here and elsewhere before you even think about starting any work. Take particular note of any risks involved - which very few people tend to describe or explain until they are in too deep (AM is one of the few that outline risks with solutions and I'm not talking about just the safety risks). It is quite normal and expected to find coffee oils underneath a shower screen of a working machine. That sort of grime is not related to the condition or state of your boiler and there has been plenty written about the perils of descaling - recommend you think carefully before proceeding down that path.

    I have been reading everything I can regarding cleaning and descaling etc.  I am going to see if I can get the steam working with a thorough clean and descale before I start spending any money.  Am very aware of the risks associated with playing with 240V. As to risks to the machine, it cost me nothing, I have spent nothing on it, if I cant fix it, then no loss, if I can fix it, I get a much better machine than what I presently have, for potentially very minimal outlay.  As I see it I have nothing to lose in that respect.

    Micro switch is working, can hear it click. Pump works, but sounds as if it is labouring. There is a very weak steam output, no obvious water drops though. The pulling apart of things does not bother me,  used to do it for a living. Am actually in Brisbane at the moment on hols. Only picked the machine up on Saturday afternoon. Heading back north on Wednesday.

    Twas indeed the one from CS.  The only way I was ever going to be allowed a new machine was if it was free. AM def went above and beyond helping me out, so for that am eternally grateful. Will be treated with TLC when it gets home, that's for sure. So once again, thank you AM.  :-)

    I'm in the process of getting a colar rebuild on my 'found object' em6910 - apparently there are other problems with the machine as well which are yet to be determined - but the pump, electrics, boiler, and water flow are all working well - so I'm hoping that a few mechanical tweaks will get it all working well News is I could have it back on my bench by Friday ! P

    I was thinking if I could upgrade and still is my modded parts OPV and gauge ect. What is the inside access like?  easy to open up and work on? like my 4800.

    I'm getting a quote on a replacement collar even as we speak from a mate who's a coffee machine tech - if it comes in at around the $100 mark then I'm just gunna go ahead and get it done as all other miner flaws (that we could trace - sent wrong valve parts for brew head) have been ironed out and machine appears to be working well except or not being able to lock the handle in!

    Got my machine back today - new collar and new micro switch all very reasonably priced - cant wait to fire it up on sunday !

    will do I'm working at the cafe tomorrow from the crack of dawn so seems unlikely that I'll be firing up before then but depending upon what time I finish work I may be able to sneak in a sneaky espresso late in the afternoon on the Sunbeam!

    Ok fired up the machine today and was very impressed with both the build quality of the machine, and the resulting shot quality Managed to make a great coffee first time around which to me speaks highly of the design aesthetics of the machine Couple of observations, however: Found the steam power pretty slow given the size of the machine you kind of expect it to have more grunt - which I guess is kind of ironic given that its pretty obvious that its a dual thermoblock from the get go Nice shot quality and I like the preprogrammed pre-infusion But not the pressurized baskets Preliminary conclusion: great looking well built and well designed coffee machine capable of making very good coffee - but let down by rudimentary steam pressure - wouldn't want to be making more than one coffee at a time But if its quality in the cup that you're after you'd probably have to spend a lot more money to get a better extraction than this I give it 3.5 out of 5 beans for ease of use, great design and features, and great shot quality !

    Good news Pat!  Just remind me... Was that a foundling machine that you've resurrected?  If so, well done extending the estimated time to landfill... Even better that you're getting great results! Sad to see you go AM and as they say, "so long and yhanks for all the fish!"

    Yes, very sad to see AM go He was the one that bought to my attention that my RED EM6900 was actually the first prototype of the 6910 to go to market - with all the same internals and functionality of the 6910 (even though its badged 6900) - so in its own way it must be a collectors item, I guess! And yes, I must play around with the functionality now that I've got it up and running - especially the steam power -'coz if I could boost that the machine would be a winner !

    You're not the only one Pat. If there were a easy simple fix to improve steam quality and most importantly reliability the 69xx would indeed be a little winner. If anyone could find one its AM. I do believe he did come up with a few little tweaks and mods for the steam side.

    I've heard elsewhere that steam variables are per-programable so ill be keen to check this out - but I had better do so soon coz I'm giving the machine away to a young family in need (of good espresso) in about an hours time!
