After the old forum software breaking in a way that we were unable to fix, we've migrated the site to a new platform.

Some elements aren't working as we'd hoped - some avatars didn't survive the transition, and we're still having issues with attachments that weren't added as inline images, but we're hoping to have that all sorted out soon.

BES 900 issue - PF keep slipping - No flow - Strange errors Reset needed

As a small update for those with the BES900, I thought I might again toss some info in for every one.


1: Don't be worried about o-rings - they are no longer being used.

After ongoing problems (even with different compounds etc) they have taken on advice from those dealing with this issue and going to a gasket.  And yes, if you wish you can do the same... A much better outcome for all.


2:  If your running at a software version of  less than or = 1.8  Then you need to get the latest version installed.  A simple flash will see you at the latest version and resolve lots of strange problems.


3:  PF keeps slipping ...  Does not lock in properly ?

Many have a tendency to not just up-dose but to OVER DOSE.  Rather than managing their bean freshness / grind  / Tamp and manage the dose level to ensue a correct space between the puck and the shower screen. They tend to just keep upping the dose. 

This then means that extra forces and physics come into play...

Outcome = The Collar becomes malformed and in some extrema cases is worn so that is almost non existent.  Seeing way too many LOL

And a pic just as a taste...  for those that need to see.  OH and does it not look like the same issue that the EM69xx had ?  However it is easer for the service agent to change on the BES900.


4: In-addition, there have been changes to the OPV to assist in reducing the flutter.

    Surely not, cant imagine they would use plastic in an area subject to so much wear, pressure and heat! :-|

    sorry, just looking at that photo... If its not plastic ,..it a very thin, black, metal section. Alloy ? ..can someone confirm ????

    Im sure some do overdose,. .....but many users with this problem are quite adamant that they do NOT overdose, and some have had the issue from new !

    So what are we to surmise from this?  Was Breville's answer to the collar abuse problems of the 6910, to manufacture a cheap interchangeable part rather than over-manufacture a solution that a large proportion of users won't ever require...??  Your thoughts?

    ......The problem will be and is; when there are NO service agents left and the parts can not be sold to the general public...
      :question: Why should there be NO service agents ? ..and why would parts not be available to the public ? Surely, supply and demand theory would suggest that even if Breville disappeared, some entrepreneur / enthusiast / business man.. would step up to fill the demand and even produce replacement components

    [size=78%]Lets ignore the Breville Disappeared as that is just conjecture and unrealistic speculation .[/size] 1:  Service agents are getting harder to find - in particular good ones.  See my other posts. 2:  Service agents are usually just that and can not sell; thus the warranty work does not produce cash flow. 3:  Society today - Once had my VCR serviced and repaired.  Today if the DVD player fails, just go and buy a new one.  The iron / kettle fails / LCD Monitor - get a new one.  4:  If one looks at $ then if a mid range Coffee machine fails after warranty = bin it.    Cost of Labour and parts. 5:  Warrant is becoming one of replacement rather than repair -  Cost of Labour and parts. Sparkies in Brisbane is about to close it's doors.  Been for sale for the last 18monts and no takers, not even just for stock.  6:  Parts that are not deemed as user replaceable can not be sold to members of the public.  Let alone the breach of Electrical Safety once the case has been opened.  The seller can be held accountable if Joe blow kills him self. I have been trying to do a deal but RENT on floor space and many other issues make it un viable. Even if I was to offer (And the Manufacturers accepted)  to just take the BES900 and EM6910/EM7000 work, it would cost me big time to meet the legislation requirements and to find a place of business.  So after expenses and costs am I going to have Quality of life and a take home of 80K  = NO WAY.  Can I repair and service after warranty - Yes as a side line but access to parts is where it stops.
    Crikey AM, I'm glad I own an Italian stallion. ;D

    If the BDB is any good long term ( IE a "Classic"), then i suspect there will always be a source of all parts  and specialists to support it. ..Like  E61 groups, or the Caravel's etc But if it is superseded by a better, cheaper more "desirable"  m/c the it will pass the way of the VHS video recorder.

    Do you have any diagrams /photos of this area and the  suggested upgrade. I am curious to see what is involved ?

    It is the same sort of material as used in all the cheaper coffee systems.  It is a black NON metal compound of plastic appearance.     I wonder if they considered the extra loading on that collar due to the larger 58mm PF ?   There will be over 300 kgf pushing down on those lugs when the pump is running at 10 bar pressure .   That is a lot of loading on two small patches of plastic collar..even without over dosing. :-[

    Also how do you find out which version is installed and what is the latest version? Thanks
