Well said Chris. I actually tried my first sour last week. Temple Brewery in Brunswick just released the "scarlet sour" which they run through hibiscus flowers. It was a fairly tame sour and was a bit too champagney for my taste but the head brewer is starting with something that will be easy drinking for summer and will try something with more punch soon

mentions of mild earlier and the dearth of dark mild ale in my area has left me with one obvious option. Make my own dark mild. Every problem has at least one solution. Currently got a mexican style on the go, next up is a dark mild. Are temple brewery's offerings available elsewhere, or just at source? Lambics are among my personal summer favourites and they seem to be classified in this category, so I would probably like it.

I know they have a distributor but not sure who's selling it. Probably check their website. They are doing some good things in there and they happen to be next door to my work so needless to say I've tried them all. Bottom_Line

Hop Head Red by Fine Hand -Crafted Ales A dark red brown colour. Big malty caramel flavour to a very hops bitter orange marmalade finish. Huge flavours. Don't notice the alcohol in the taste even though it is 7%. Really really really good :thumb:. Nothing like any other American beer I have had.

Flavor is a very subjective cause. Everybody's is different. I would recommend looking for "sampler" 12 package. Sam Adams,Widmer and Blue Moon are a number of excellent beginners to look for, I'm sure that there are others. Look for a bar in your place that has a variety of art drinks and discuss to the bartenders.

I travelled through Germany and Austria for a couple of months many moons ago and gained an appreciation of the European penchant for beer. Being able to walk into a supermarket and pick up 500ml bottles of incredible German wheat beer costing 69 Euro-cents was a revelation. We pay vastly too much for beer here.

Yep, your are correct, and, our beers are rubbish. I can make 150 litres of quality all grain beer for a lot less than $100.

Set up is bits and pieces scattered all over the place. Here is a piccy of the final product using a New Heidelberg Malt which allows for the lightest coloured Lagers ever produced. This unfiltered all grain beer at its best.

I noticed a few ginger beer fans in this thread short of making it myself the best ginger beer, for me anyway is Budrim Ginger Syrup available in most supermarkets and soda water this way you can make it as strong or sweet as you like it served with a slice of lime.

One beer that I really enjoy (and Grill'd got me onto it) is Stone & Wood Pacific Ale http://stoneandwood.com.au/beers/pacific-ale/ I can't really describe it as I'm bad at that, but it's good if you like the Coopers style ales.
