SS - actually yes. But it's at least partly due to necessity with the small batch sizes But it's fast to setup, easy to clean, fast to use and fast to cool down the smaller quantities of beans. If I had a better KKTO setup - i.e. a permanent fixture that didn't have to be setup, packed down and the roasting location cleaned each time, then it'd work out about the same. But my own KKTO setup (both the device and the physical location/storage) is fiddly and that really adds to the time. Last night I plonked the roaster down in the kitchen and ran a roast while I was cooking the kid's dinners - my wife complained about the smoke that pervaded the house, but I was able to run two roasts in the time it took us to cook dinner for the kids and myself. --- A sidenote on the charred beans. It's not the chaff slots. Each time there's four or five beans on the top of the bean mass, clustered around the central drive shaft. I'm assuming then that the stirring motion doesn't keep a few beans near the very top in motion quite as well as the rest.
