After the old forum software breaking in a way that we were unable to fix, we've migrated the site to a new platform.

Some elements aren't working as we'd hoped - some avatars didn't survive the transition, and we're still having issues with attachments that weren't added as inline images, but we're hoping to have that all sorted out soon.

WTB - Dead breville smart grinder

Any one have a dead or old Breville Smart Grinder ; that they no longer wish to be bothered with.

Breville do not sell any parts other than the burrs...

Am looking to play, so the budget is small...

PM me if you may be able to assist

Thanks

No rush.... I think I got mine fixed... It went to super fine like powder....  Even at half setting was fine enough to choke any thing... Spoke to my contacts and they said.. Never had that one; usually the other way round  So after a couple of Hrs stripped it down and I understand why they do not sell spare parts. That being said, very easy to adjust and make most repairs.... After stripping it down, it looks like that with the spacers in place to jack the bottom burr up to get what most want.  That this area can trap lots of grinds etc... Something got caught and so much crap that it appears that it forced the burr up even further and then, as the stuff was so fine it just clogged the system.. So I reset the stops and calibrated the 10 turn adjustment POT so that Zero was ZERO...  Removed all the washers and now I am sort of / some where / might be lucky back to a usable grind setting... The issue is that the worm drive and main gear are all plastic and thus as they stretch, out of whack and you can only play with so much...  THEY DO NOT SELL THE GEARS as replacement parts........ Bugger bugger..... Take care every one - off to find some unexploded ordinances tomorrow ..

So the moral of this story .. is don't buy a Breville Smart grinder .. cause it's a piece of plastic junk.

Not at all....  This unit was purchased in 2010 and does about 2 to 3 kg a month; every month.... So at the great price of $250 it has served well and does the job in a space that not much else can fit into. I did get a Vario, but my wife prefered the BSG800 so it stayed. The ease of adjustment and low mess suited our demands...... I just wished I had stripped it down well before and would have been able to reset the gear drive so that the bottom burr was adjusted correctly...  About a 15min job and means you can dump the spacers.  I have other grinders that are worth much much more but they do not get used because of Size/ Mess / dosing and any number of other functionality issues, when in a small kitchen and used by every man and his dog. In fact the BSG800 was one of the more cost effective buys I have made....
  • Tempted to send mine down to you now. For the fix, not as spare parts.
  • I too sold my Vario.  It was a great ginder for the home but still messy and wouldn't grind fine enough.  I emailed the Australian distributor and Mahlkonig and didn't even get a reply! :( So I sold it, and bought a cheaper BSG, and I'm well happy with it.  It might not be a 2k conical but it's clean, really easy to use.  I dialed it in within minutes for a lovely nakid pour.  The only problem I have with Breville's stuff is getting it repaired if something happens but for $250 can I really complain?  Probably not. QM0996, mine didn't have spacers.  Maybe they have sorted out this issue on the newer ones.  I only bought mine 3-4 months ago.
