Cup tray protector

Didn't want to scratch up the cup tray on the Slayer so made this today.

First I purchased a heatproof oven proof silicone baking liner off ebay for $15.00 62cmx40cm, they come in a few different sizes and prices from $6 up to $15. Then wait 10 to 30 days for it to arrive from China.

Then I took of the cup tray

Put the mat on a wooden board and lay the cup tray neatly in position upside down on top of the mat. Then use a hammer and a hole punch (just a little bit smaller than the tray holes) to punch out the holes keeping a little pressure on it all so it doesn't move.

Once you have punched all your holes.

Lay it back in position on top of your cup tray, mark and trim back edges to suit. (I didn't need to trim the side edges)

Give everything a wipe over and polish the cup tray, refit the protector and put your cups back on.

Job done, have a coffee. Protects both the tray and your cups for $15 and an hour of your time.

Mate... That is seriously cool! Well done. I use a wooden sushi-roller on top of mine Wichita suits my decor perfectly!

How well does it transfer the heat into the cups now? (both options)

Not a great deal of difference as all the holes are matched up allowing for an even heat transfer, the loss due to the mat thickness is minimal - still warm to the touch. Chester

That's cool. However, I don't store cups on my machine and it would be a PITA to fill with the mat on top. It would also ruin my protective dust coating :D

I did exactly the same a few years ago, except I used transparent self adhesive "book wrap" vinyl film from my daughters school supply ! It's practically invisible if applied carefully, heat resistant, easy to remove (no residue) and the added bonus is that it is non slip.......and it costs very little. I seriously considered applying it to all external surfaces for protection ! I would post a photo, but you actually cannot see the difference between where it is and the unprotected polished stainless. :thumb:

Thanks - I'll check into it. I'm not a huge fan of having gear on my machine either (not to mention it lacks a cup tray). But we're moving to a much, much smaller place and I won't have my accoutrements draw any more.
