Welcome Peter. Enjoy the forum. We all love our coffee here. Without it I would be miserable. It's my way to start the day. Half asleep I'm pulling shots and once tasted my day officially begins.

Hi I'm just starting to have a bit of a look around here and things are looking great! Good to see some identities from other forums, too! So... I'm a teacher living in the Dandenongs with wife & 3 children. I got into specialty coffee when a place called Little Elixir opened in Mt D. It stayed open for one year only, sadly, but the guys changed my idea of coffee! I upgraded from a GC to a Pavoni Professional and a isomac grinder. Now I'm onto an hg one and and Alex leva. The classic is on the classroom bench with a lido grinder. Love doppio (single shots are what I call "a de-caff" 🙂 ) I like cold drip and pour over too. Waiting on the arrival of a trinity one, which isa very exciting. Anyone else getting one of these? I'll get back into filter / cold drip more when it arrives. Thanks for Havin' me! SBM

Welcome to The Coffee Forum Shortblackman, its nice to have another knowledgeable member join our small but growing band. Thanks everyone! Now for a sad story. My Alex needs a repair. Yesterday I was cleaning the group & letting water run through . My wet hand lifting the lever .... Slipped! 🙁 it flew back up and has caused some damage. I'll take it back to Northcote for repair when I can . Nearly cried. Anyway. If you've got an unloaded spring lever, take extra care....For me . 😢

Thanks. Will do. In the meantime, I've brought home my Gaggia classic (my main machine prior to the Pavoni) from school and the first shot I've got from it using the hg one was - too fast - but very promising. What a good grinder (and a couple of year's practise) can do! The presso will step up to save the day at school... Go, Presso (& kettle)!!!

Holy Toledo!! That's terrible news mate. Given the price of the thing there must be some redundancies yo protect moving parts. Reckon it shouldn't be a biggie mate. Thoughts are with you!!

Sorry to read about your Alex, at least the handle did not catch you under the jaw. Can you tell what sort of damage has been done ?

My jaw is grateful of that, yes! At this stage , I don't know the damage. It clicks, as though a bolt is pulling through a hole where it's loose. (That's what I imagine it to be , anyway). And I can see that the whole group pulls away from the machine if I go to pull it down . It pulls out a mm or two, but that's not pulling hard enough to actually even budge the lever. I dare not pull it any further in case. I'm trying to work out how to get it in to Northcote... When all this is behind me, I'm gunna save for a roasting set up!!!

Hi all, My name is Michelle and I'm really new to the whole coffee thing - apart from drinking it that is! I've had a trusty Jura Impressa E75 for around 13 years now, it's even done a couple of overseas postings with me to Asia. I've just bought a beautiful used BFC Lira and am keen to round out my public service working week with a day on Lira, and hopefully change the ratio in a year or two! I read a lot of posts here when doing research for my hubby's cafe that we're trying to get up and running. He has a mountain bike shop and always wanted to open a cafe in it, even before we actually opened the bike shop! The posts here were always really informative, so I'm hoping that eventually, one day, I will have enough experience and knowledge to offer someone help like you all did for me.

Wow Michelle! Welcome!! They are both excellent machines you have and what a remarkably intelligent and informed choice to buy the BFC Lira!! Lots of tips here and when you are an expert please continue to share your journey with us... we love coffee and coffee people. What grinder did you pair and how many groups is the machine?
