DIP roasters

Hi all,
Does anyone have any experience with this brand particularly the 1kg and 2kg models TE1000 & TE3000?
Apparently they are made in Italy and there is an AU importer but I haven't been able to find out much more than that on the internet anyway.
I'd be interested to know how they compare to other roasters coming out of Europe and Turkey.

FG The question you should be asking yourself before trying to compare roaster brand A versus B, or Turkey versus China versus US, versus Europe.............. First things first. Do I want to use an electric roaster or a gas roaster. IMO, that's a more important consideration - the energy method - before you get to the point of trying to evaluate brands, price, build and roast quality. Personally, I would never show interest in a 1kg or 2kg electric roaster. Gas is what I prefer (please don't ask me to explain why), but I can appreciate that for others going electric might be a perfectly sensible option.

Which would be cheaper to run over the long-term Jeff? I'd have to imaging gas is a more expensive setup be gas is better heat control and more cost effective long-term. Am I way off the mark?

Thanks for the responses, I might add that I've considered both fuel types and various sizes but have decided on a 1-2 kg roaster to use in the garage as it allows me to do continue to do small roasts for myself and also up the capacity a bit when doing friends and family. I agree with gas having it's advantages but for a small capacity roaster, I don't think it's feasible for me especially in regards to type B compliance. My original question was more around getting people's opinions in regards to that particular brand/model and if there is any information and or opinion on how they compare to other ~1-2 kg electric machines. Brett, I think that long term cost of ownership is complicated to calculate and subject to so much possible change. You can offset electric with solar arrays (assuming you roast during sunlight or have batteries) but with gas you can't really offset.....and with the way gas prices have jumped recently (especially for large business users) it makes the modelling shaky at best. Compliance costs are also variable, depending upon how close the platform is already to the standards....some are far closer than others. Gas has a different latency than electric, so you may find that depending upon the roaster and the operator, gas may use a lot less overall fuel as you can turn down and then ramp up very fast versus managing the lag on electric. Many of the electric roasters are also fire traps with combustible chaff potentially finding its way near the elements. This problem does not affect every brand. I have a gas 1.5 and it's a sensational unit to drive....just like my larger 15kg and twin 30kg systems. This little unit is the benchmark in that segment and unfortunately it's design is often ripped off by those dodgy manufacturers that disrespect and ignore the basic laws of copyright.

I use two behmor plus roasters at home with a combines 1kg roast capacity and Im very happy with the results and the repeatability especially if you're doing a pre-heat to establish a baseline to go from of course this is just usually for myself and a few friends but I did do a coffee catering job last weekend for a couple of 100 people and it was a real buzz to use my own coffee and to get great feedback from that plus total setup- costs of less than $1k isnt going to break the bank - having said that id welcome the opportunity to ramp up to a bigger setup - there's a few good roasters on the sunshine coast for sure - but always room for some smart competition i think! P

Me too... I've used the KKTO for so long and really love the results and the evenness of the roasts but I'll sell of the old Behmor that is sitting idle (and has been for a long time) and have a play with a new toy!
