I haven't tried the Bank of New Zealand Grinder, but if ever they release one, please be sure to let me know! I can say, however, that you are unlikely to find a better domestic grinder on the market than the Rancillio Rocky, or, the Mazzer Minnie Being the proud owner of a Rocky myself, I don't think I could ever go back to pre-ground again! ACG Your Rocky is a great domestic grinder and good value for money about $450. The Mazzer Mini a great upmarket domestic grinder RRP $700. The Mini will also work as a second grinder in a cafe for decaf! Both are flat burr grinders. The BNZ and Robur are both high end 'top of the range' commercial conical grinders. The ease of use and grind quality of both these machines are excellent. The BNZ has a stepped adjustment whereas the Robur is stepless. The BNZ churns at 400RPM The Robur churns at 450RPM BNZ around $2600 and the Robur $2700 Both weigh around the 20-25 kg. I currently have a BNZ on the kitchen bench and it is a treat to use. If you are looking to purchase one let me know and I can steer you in the right direction. John

I have had the Rocky and it is an excellent grinder. I had no issues with it at all. I had the doserless model. I also think the Mini is even better, extremely well built and designed but I have never owned one. I have had a Macap M4D for one year and it is a great grinder. I love it and it looks fantastic on the bench in chrome. I just bought a Mazzer Robur for $650 which is big but awesome. Either the Robur or the M4D will be on my bench in a month's time but not both. One has to go and the size of the Robur means it isn't ideal in the kitchen. The Bank of New Zealand grinder is somewhat smaller but still very big and again, it may pay to consult your wife before you put one in your kitchen. I would definitely not buy new, my two cents. You can get fantastic grinders cheap second hand if you look and the commercial ones run for ever and unless you are unlucky cost nothing to run. I also am beginning to like Dosers like on the Robur. The big conicals do seem to give an amazing grind but I have had it only a short while so...

bwahahahaha.... that's what I was thinking. I use my Rocky at work for the Plunger and it hasn't missed a beat since I bought it in 2009!! The Rocky isn't loved by resellers because the model hasn't been refreshed ever and it's idiosyncrasies have been fixed by many of its immediate competitors. Moreover, there was an issue with the Rancillio distribution model here in Oz which may have been fixed... it was a while ago.

Haha.. yeah I'm still using my Rocky for filter grind, that's roughly when I bought mine too Brett, 2010 I think! Definitely a soft spot for it, served me well for many years! Was there an issue with yours? Mine seems fine..

No issue whatsoever. For Espresso the grind setting steps can sometimes be a bit further apart than desired is all.

got rid of my Rocky when I bought my mazzer super jolly, I also had a 'spare' compak k10 kicking around for awhile but the mazzer stays in the shed now and only comes out for special occasions, so my old faithful sunbeam cafe series grinder does the job for my day to day usage at home!
