suppose I should probably give this link for those interested: http://us9.campaign-archive2.com/?u=7bdcb038afc6e48ff4d7d980a&id=2e9e198627&e=fce5eb8c7a

I'm getting a bit cynical about all the 'events' on the world coffee scene these days - World roasting championships, World Brewers Cup, Latte Art, Coffee In Good Spirits, Cup Tasters Championship, along with the World Barista champs (which I used to look forward to); don't know if I'm just getting a bit jaded, or if this really is overkill!!

Is it a great competition or a search for credibility and more money?

No I dont think you're jaded A just being realistic, and unfortunately a lot of anonymous people looking in on the internerd are not interested in realism....for some unknown reason no one is allowed to call a spade a spade....PC gone absolutely over the deep end.

I think if you did a survey of real coffee (roasting) business or even real cafe business you would find some very interesting opinions on the topic at hand, but these are generally never the people that take part in these discussions on the net. That is of course why opinions that are "out there", may not reflect what people in real business/industry think, only what people looking in from the outside, think. Very one sided.

Ergo....oh another barista comp, shoot out, smack down, whatever????? Isnt it wonderful !  ;D

The barista championship thing is an industry all on its own and at many levels is nothing more than a vehicle for people that are essentially only just moving through the cafe or coffee roasting industries, on their way to something / somewhere else..... Readers think its all about the coffee but actually, that is way over to the left of what is actually happening. Not that there is anything wrong with that, just that its tiresome to have to suffer all the BS along the way. Smoke and mirrors, image, positioning, and nothing is ever what it seems.
