ordered 3kg of this from MG they give it a cupping score 90

roasted some about 6 days ago, just tried one cup today

Yummy!

great coffee either as pourover or espresso:)
Isomac TeaMaria HX, Mazzer Super Jolly E, Baratza Preciso grinder for brews,   Torrefatore 2kg roaster, ACF tulip cups, Bellina syphon, ceramic pourover, CCD, a very understanding wife!!

Nice C-man.  If you want a batch done on the KKTO let me know.  It would take you a while to roast all that on a popper! ;)  Enjoyed our session last time, and the coffees that you brought over.  Should only take 30 mins to roast, and bag. :)

I would bring some JBM to try on your lever while we wait.

I find pretty good results from a few minutes 'drying', then taking them to first crack slowly, putting on a bit more heat just before first crack and then dropping the temp a little and letting them coast, pulling them much closer to city then second crack. really early = fruit, late = chocolate, too late = char (for most Ethiopian beans).

I have had 4 attempts at roasting these beans.

I roasted the 1st batch to the same level that I have roasted previous Yirgacheffe Gr2 beans. (They are my favourite bean but have not been available for a few months now....hence my order of the Chelba.)

The first 3 tries were turfed, tasting and smelling of brake fluid. I have roasted batches 2-4 lighter each time. They don't tend to roast evenly for me and I agree with C-man....they have HEAPS of chaff.

The 4th batch was roasted quite light compared to roasts 1-3. Early sampling has yielded much less offensive flavours but still nowhere near as fulfilling as previous Yirgacheffes, which were exclusively Yirgacheffe Gr2.

Roast number 5 with Chelba will be even lighter.

Funny....these are the only beans that I have had trouble getting great results from.

Cool!  Thanks Paolo!  Yep C-Man, nothing ventured nothing gained, and, if I don't like them I can use them at work in the communal plunger.  If nothing else I will enjoy swapping notes and tastes!

Just lots of chaff during the roast, lacehim says the most chaff he has ever seen

he thinks a roast in the wrong kind of roaster would start a fire. lol

Had the fortune of cupping these at MTC in Sydney on Friday. One of the sweetest coffees you'll ever find - slightly winey/boozy mouthfeel without that "over-fermented" state - surprisingly clean and full of strawberries, cherries and a little raspberry. One of the creamiest mouthfeels you could hope for - a really good coffee, and you'd be silly not to score it in the 88-92 point range. I'm seriously thinking about buying a sackful of this - it's that good. Perhaps not up there with the Aricha / Idido Misty Vally / Beloya coffees of a couple of years back, but close.

hey C-man,

was roasted on a sample roaster (possibly a probat) and done as a SCAA standard cupping, apart from 3 bowls were ground per coffee instead of 5.

That should give you insight into the process - or google CoE/SCAA cupping. essentially it was 3 bowls times 10 coffees, all blind cupped. Having said that, the Chelba was so distinctive that I guessed it having had one sniff of the dry aroma - I'd not tasted it before but had read the description on MinistryGrounds.

Beans arrived today.  Looks like an expert packed them.  Thanks Paolo... I'll roast some towards the end of the week adn start tasting.
