Morning all.

Ordered yesterday----

India Elephant Hills Monsoon   8 kg

Colombia La Esperanza Red Heirloom Bourbon 7.5 kg

The Elephant Hills has a big chocolaty flavour and mobs of crema, one of my favorites.

The Columbian sounds good and should compliment the EH as a blend. :thumb:

"Colombia La Esperanza Red Heirloom Bourbon
Another ripper Colombian coffee from La Esperanza. This one is a Heirloom Red Bourbon varietal (Bourbon Rojo).
Beautiful processing and easy to roast. In the cup it has great body with lingering caramello chocolate flavours of sweet caramel and cocoa."

Cheers,

Dry Bean.

Heya DB, that seems like a huge order to me, I always just order a kilo of one bean at a time but I would guess you know what you like, I'm still finding out  :P.

My latest Ministry Grounds order on its way. A kilo of each.

Brazil Boa Vista (green)
Colombia Finca Veracruz (green)

Freight costs are expensive on smaller orders Sue, larger orders make the cost a lot more acceptable, less than $2 a kilo. :)

They are a bit pricey but I know from selling on ebay that it costs me $10.45 to send a parcel weighing up to only 500gms with signature so if it costs me $9.95 for up to 10 kilos of beans I am a happy camper  :thumb:.

G'Day DB,  I think you will like the Colombian Red Berbon, it has moved to the top of my favourites list. It's great as a S.O. or in a blend. I have tried it with a Sumatran, a Yirgacheffe, and a Peruvian, in various ratios, and they have all been good to excellent.

Based on what you said above, I must try the Elephant Hills Monsooned.  I have tried their regular bean which was OK, but not really outstanding in any way.  Thanks for the tip.

G'Day Degee,  I really like the EH and the Colombian sounds like it should combine with it nicely.

Yesterday roasted a batch of 725 grams 50% of each, will trial it around the end of the week and report back. :)

I had an order of EH years ago but they didn't really live up to the hype. I'd like to try them again from a trusted supplier... where are you guys ordering from??

Sure was.

I am now resisting the urge to get my roast on but I have enough to keep me going for around a week and a half so maybe on the weekend.

Glad they're good mate.  Last time I had the they weren't a patch on BeenGreens Monsooned Malabar Gold which were 3/5 the price at the time.  Not the suppliers fault of course, these thing are seasonal crops and wild variations can exist between the same harvest at the came co-op.  Enjoy!

I couldn't help myself, I roasted some of the EH  :P.

First crack seemed to go on forever, I THINK I cut it just at the start of second crack.
The result is dark, oil coated beans with divots. Very little chaff.
Regardless I am going to make a brew with them in a bit and see how they are.

Hi all!,

I am new to the forum and social media in general. I am wondering what home roasters people recommend and why?
Any help would be much appreciated.
I have used the Behmor 1600plus before.....
anyone used the Gene Cafe?

Cheers!

They are the first lot of beans I have had to bin. Say no more  ::).

Part of the joy is knowing that you're saving money by home roasting therefore the experimentation/mishap roasts are part of the fun as opposed to a fiscal disaster.  Moreover, I've thrown out roasts from professional roasters although never ever one from the Pros associated with this forum!!

I'll post my question there.
What roaster do you use if you don't mind me asking?

Hi mate, my preference is for the KKTO but for smaller fiddly batches I use the Behmor.
