Chookz here. I've joined up because I can't start a day without a good coffee (or 3) and lately I've been thinking that it's what I want to pursue as a career. I live in Melbourne and work full time, but am looking to get a small roaster and start experimenting on the side. Who knows what could come of it?!? So just swung by to say hi. I guess to get the ball rolling here's some info I'm after to make a start on my journey:
- What are some good roasters to start off with? How much am I looking at spending? I'm the type of person loves to have the best of everything so would rather pay a little extra to get a good machine as opposed to something cheap to start on. Pay a little extra, not go too crazy - perhaps looking for a range of machines from cheap to the cream of the crop and I can see where my budget fits.
- Next up would be size. I'm thinking 1 kg as I'll be learning to roast from scratch and experimenting with different roasts. So expecting a few mistakes along the way and 1 kg would have the least wastage. So what do you guys think? Good to start at 1 kg? Or save a little more and grab a big boy?
- Lastly to get the conversation going, can anyone point me to a good source of information for beginner roasters, and also if anyone knows any good sources of info for setting up a roaster/coffee shop business.
I'm only very new to this site and am conscious of clogging up this introduce yourself thread with all my questions, so please point me in the right direction if any of these questions have their own threads on the forum.
Thanks guys, speak soon
