Hi all,
I'm what is known in the forum industry as a "lurker"
I read nearly everything but often don't have a lot to add as I don't know too much...

Found my way to here from the coffeesnobs forum...
Have an auber pid Silvia and an M4D - keep eyeing off HX machines but also keep telling myself that in an apartment it'll take up too much bench space...although the VBM Domobar Junior hmmm...
I also would prefer the steam arm on the right due to the kitchen setup so I am trying hard to dream only

No garage or man cave available here so I particularly enjoy reading through all of the restoration threads  :)
Lack of a garage is also the main reason I've tried to stay away from roasting my own even though I read a lot about it - SWMBO would not allow it in the kitchen unfortunately

I'll try to contribute where I can with the little I know...

Welcome Chonski!  There are HX machines like the Oscar or the Splendor/Diadema Junior as well as the VBM which have a smaller footprint. Having said that the old Silvia is no slouch and having read your grinder review neither are you!!! Welcome... I look forward to more of your posts!

So, me,

Pom by birth, Aussie by choice, Queenslander forever

Seriously brewing for over 20 years but have had a series of pretty poor machines including my worst mistake, a Pavoni Europiccola, which cost a fortune and really didn't suit me. I was therefore more a french press sort of person until I picked up an EM6910 which could really punch out great espresso. Thanks to AM for helping hone my skills on that one and get very consistant results. Since moved to a Rocket Premium Plus and Mini Mazer grinder which are a nice pair but I doubt the end of the journey.

I've been roasting too for over a decade using a variety of devices, but gave up when I came to Aus initially due to lack of green (now fixed). Back into it big time now using an iCoffee roaster which does the job for me nicely!

Not enough hours in the day to do all the things I want to do...

JB

Hi everyone

Another new to the forum post  :) A little about myself and my machines (and history!). I got seriously into coffee about six years ago from of all places, a Gloria Jeans chain cafe in Townaville. After buying lots of coffee from there the owner suggested that I should get my own machine...

I started off with a sunbeam cafe series espresso machine and a blade style grinder, which after a year or so endd up being a Rancillio Silia and Rocky combo. I later added one of JimG's PID kits which amazed me with the change in consistency that it provided me. About a year after I got the Silvia I decided that I wanted to get a lever machine, so I looked around for a while and investigated the various pro's and con's of different levers and ended up with a La Pavoni Pro. It served me very well, especially with a 10 week period where I used it exclusively while I was away from home. I still have fond memories of the machine.

After a trip overseas with work I ended up having enough money to purchase my next upgradeitis gratification system. I ended up with a Rocket Giotto Premium Plus, Macap M4 and my first roaster, a Cafe Genie. The Genie and me didn't last long together before I bought a Behmor roaster which really kicked off the roasting passion.

On my last trip overses with work I spent alot of time searching around the net for my next purchase. I was considering a move up from the Giotto, but I really wanted a lever machine again. So I managed to stumble upon a review of the Ponte Vecchio Lusso on H-B and thought that it ticked all the boxes of what I wanted. Apart from attempting a resto job on an older commercial two group, it was the only one for me.

Not long after buying the PV I ended up getting the Hottop B2 roaster to roast my stash of beans (which at the time was around 165kg). I can now say that I am happy with my current coffee utensils for home use. The only problem is that I don't know when the next bout of upgradeitis will strike!  ???

So, there's a little about my coffee history!

Cheers,
ash

That is a seriously large stash of beans to roast on a hottop!

I recently modded my lusso with an antivac, check that out in Projects.  Everyone here is on the look out for a lever!   Just about, I think it's becoming a problem!

Enjoy yourself and get posting and join us on chat.

I'm a hippie who drink a lot of coffee, and I like to browse random forums at night :) From the states but I live in NSW. Only here to see what the rest of Australia is up to and to have people criticize my thoughts and comments ;)
