A "Funny" Thing Happened on the way to the...
« on: 18/09/2016, 12:31 PM »
Imagine an unexplained loud but dull thud, run to a front window and look out, and see a small hatchback reversing "at speed" out from the front wall of your roastery and hitting another car in the middle of the road....

Imagine there had still been people sitting in that outdoor cafe area....or staff sitting at the desk directly behind the window and wall.

And imagine that someone has to deal with the aftermath, which will be to demolish a section of front wall and rebuild...

By and large, the driver was unhurt.

All of this is considerably higher than the road level. The vehicle has to first jump a kerb, travel uphill and then jump a 300mm timber retaining wall to the outdoor seating area, before hitting the front of the building. Which probably "washed off" enough momentum that the vehicle didnt demolish the wall and end up inside the building....

Hmmm...certainly put a dampener on my afternoon.

But these things happen more often than is reported

Let's hope the insurance company does not delay in the claim

Well....yup it could be the start of our drive through cafe...

Had another look this morning. There appears to have been further movement since Saturday, and the first builder to take a look threw a preliminary figure of a hundred thou into the fray..... That could of course come off when he does a proper assessment and quote, but geeeeeezzzzzz !!!!

Lucky we have *properlike* insurance, and a very good long standing relationship with the broker who told us to just go ahead and git-er-done (and that's easier said than done).

I should have known... we had the commercial builders (asx listed company) into work to quote on a driveway and path.  $75k to $125k was verbal.  Local builder did it for 25k and guess what... nobody died and it hasn't yet fallen down ;)

Yes mate, and at a big school thus the padding in the quote :/

Yes..... padding in the quote

For ours, owing to the size of the quote it has gone straight to the insurer. Assessor coming tomorrow, and I guess that will sort out whether this is padded or straight up....
