Tamper Storage Bags or Cases

edited January 1970 in Accessories
is there such thing as a tamper carrier bag/pouch? Taking it from place to place is awkward. I've looked on pullman website, they have nothing.

It needs a custom made bag.

I can't even begin to imagine haw that would look.  When you are arrested (and you will be arrested) please not tell your cell mates that you are in for having a Tamper in public.  A penny just dropped: an overly excited barista I observed recently may have just had a tamper in his pocket and wasn't actually that excited to see me...  :(
  • Brett, thats rather funny. Never thought of it like that. AM - i'd like to pursue this with you (your father) The bag idea i havent really given much though - but perhaps like a ten pin bowling bag if you've seen one of those, and it would have to somehow fit snugly inside. This design idea is off the top of my head so it may be useless. Need to think about it more.
  • Strap at the top. Orange is the zipper - it would need to go all the way round as you wouldnt be able to get the tamper out as it stands now (perhaps need a slightly wider base?). Thick blue part at bottom is some compressed/firm stuff that the tamper will fit snuggly into. But as you say AM the mockup will give a better idea as to what may or maynot work. I'll have to think about what type of mockup material i can use... qrchnq.jpg
  • That saddle is gorgeous AM, what do his stock saddles look like? I had to do a double take that it wasn't real :)
  • or perhaps a drawstring type opening, but not sure how long that would last before it breaks though.
  • On the bag thing I would be looking at making it out of 3-5mm neoprene for a little protection against an occasional drop on the ground. For a closure on top Velcro is the easy solution. Think of virtually a stubbie cooler with Velcro inside the top then squashed flat. With a few of mine not being in regular I still use the boxes they came in for storage and transporting but I might make one up for fun and take a pic later in the week if I find time.

What about one of those cheep  ;) ally tool cases - Supper cheep etc   They come with all the foam and you just cut to suit.. Two tampers , small milk jug, Milk Thermometer (calibrated) and a pick to remove group seals... Then put ya sticker or marketing label and you name on the case... KISS and cheep and easy to do.  .
We already do that sort of thing, did them for prizes for AASCA though I wouldn't call them cheap or easy to do. The pick and pluck foam doesn't stay upright for that long so we got custom stuff made up and we had to sell them at $150 and even then weren't making that much on them. I've thought about the bag idea being suggested and it's on my 'to-do' list! Greg

you better hurry up, its on my to-do-list too  ;D

I have taken this offline with AM, but i reckon you'd be looking at a single material for the entire tamper bag (except obviously the stablizing base), however, the handle part of the tamper may need thicker material to protect it well. Its a bit hard to really say anything concrete without testing it with some leather. The closure could be done in several ways.
  • The easiest way is to use a tube Second way is to use wet suit material like this 31vkTd3LUzL._SL500_AA300_.jpg Third way is to use leather KK
  • Well, i'll be getting the deluxe leather model.  ;D Commercially made, and thats the next step - would be to use another material(s) as you have suggested KK.
  • Prototype 1 TamperTube (c)  ;) 5mm Neoprene. Not fancy but quick and easy to make. Circles were 2mm larger than the tamper and the sides are just for a neat fit for height. The opening was cut 180 degrees from the glued joint for better strength. I will make another with a velcro top as I think it will work and look better.
  • Thats pretty neat BF I currently rest my tamper while not in use in a rubber tube so the bottom does not scuff or scratch KK

    A tamper pillow.

Looking pretty good. Strap on the side would also work.

As I own a Kite shop and a few Sewing machines all things are possible  :) I have a couple of square metres of Neoprene to play with so I will have a bit more of a play during the week.
  • So is there such a thing as i tamper holder/rester/bed for a tamper?

    Yes there is Coffee_tamper.jpg KK
  • I have a small stainless steel vacuum flask, that came with a vinyl ' simulated leather' carrying case. The design looks ideal for a tamper case, just needs to be shorter. The case has a zip closure and a webbing carry strap. As the flask with case was $10, should be possible to get these made for a dollar or two. I reckon the neoprene wet suit material, with nylon on both faces for abrasion resistance is be an ideal material. Will post a  photo later in case it helps with prototyping.
  • Here is one that I came up with If you have a electric shaver then you all ready have your tamper case.. Better still I your name is Philips it's all ready monogramed ;D ;D Cheer Gra..

Beautiful fit Gra I was also thinking on similar lines with some of the small camera cases But your find is way better because its shaped to suit a tamper better KK
  • I've made an initial enquiry with one of our suppliers about getting a leather tamper carry bag made up. Stay tuned.
  • Pics of flask case. Similar could be made in leather, shorter obviously. Really simple construction. Pieces required. One circle (base). Two wide flat pieces for sides, tapered at top. Two narrow pieces from one side to zips - so zip is offset from centre. Two zips, webbing carry strap, piping, thread.
