After the old forum software breaking in a way that we were unable to fix, we've migrated the site to a new platform.

Some elements aren't working as we'd hoped - some avatars didn't survive the transition, and we're still having issues with attachments that weren't added as inline images, but we're hoping to have that all sorted out soon.

Coffee... demand up, production down... Uh Oh...

    Some place where the oxygen is very thin........way up high. Seriously, I won't enter the climate debate, but there was one VERY important sentence in the whole article.............Speculators driving the market. Pricing is a game where people are making money on the way up and down - unfortunately it's not the hard working folks - farmers, transport companies, roasters, baristas and cafe staff.........it's those greedy commodity traders who with a few keystrokes on their computer can make literally tens of thousands of people's lives far more difficult (and miserable) than it really needs to be. Love to see a group of speculators run a coffee farm for 6 months to realize the impact of their actions. No money, no food and a broken body. Perhaps a script for a new reality program.........I'm a Coffee Speculator, get me out of here......

    Spot on MyCuppa. That caught my eye too. This is exactly the kind of thing that OWS (and all the other world 'Occupy' sites) are about. I don't want to get on a rant here and I'm far from being a screaming lefty or anything, but corporate culture has run amok and 'coffee speculation' is about as pure a distillation of evil I can think of. Coffee farmers and their workers are already getting the short shrift, as are farmers all over the globe. There's got to be a point where we say that it's just not sustainable to treat a vital resource (the food of a nation, for example) as a stock to be traded beyond its intrinsic value as an actual product.

    :rofl: I'm seriously sick of the media.  Someone says something, and it's taken as 100% truth.  When did we stop using our brains and our instincts to know bullshit when we see it. Climate change may well be real, but just like coffee making we need all the variables, not just the ones someone thinks are important.  A few scientist with 100 years of data just doesn't do it for me! Read between the lines people and use your melon.  We are all doomed I tell ya (according to the media anyway) but for me, it's business as usual.

    I think you have nailed it again Lacheim.  There are some really important issues such as the ones that Jeff and Kelsey talked about which won't make the front page because they are deemed not interesting enough or worse yet, they implicate major shareholders!!!  When did the News become an infotainment-ercial?  Even a story like the one above has all the journalistic integrity of a rushed Yr 10 assignment!

Gloom, doom blah, blah. My Dad downloads podcasts off the radio national burns them to cd. He used to give them to me. I don't bother anymore. Why? I would get them 3-6 months late. All the "experts" would claim they know the "system" and how everything works. Thing is that 3-6 months later the predictions from the experts prove to be no better then random.
