After the old forum software breaking in a way that we were unable to fix, we've migrated the site to a new platform.

Some elements aren't working as we'd hoped - some avatars didn't survive the transition, and we're still having issues with attachments that weren't added as inline images, but we're hoping to have that all sorted out soon.

When things change unexpectedly

edited January 1970 in Accessories
I love my Rockingham cappuccino cups, I have the blue ones, bought from a cafe local to me for $12 each including saucer. They can be had for nearly half that online but hey they were an impulse buy....

Last night while walking past the same cafe I decided to get two more, so I now have four "almost" matching blue cappuccino cups. I say "almost" as from a distance they all look the same but on closer inspection I noticed last night that the new ones now have thinner walls and are noticably lighter in weight. Where did the other 27g of porcelain go? I bought these because I liked the way they hold the heat and the way they feel in hand - this has now changed  :( Not happy Jan... I would have rathered the price went up than for them to reduce the amount of materials used. I think I will take them back and see if they have any "old" stock on hand...

Any similar experiences of late?

  • You know they will look at you funny when you go in to their shop with a set of scales and some cups  It's a shame when this kind of thing happens, especially when you are still paying a premium price for them.
  • Not as recent, but I've also been surprised by the variations in Rockingham cups... My first red pair were purchased ~3 years ago and  ~232g.  About 18 months ago I purchased another red pair which were much the same, and a blue pair which were ~264g but the finger hole was so much smaller that I can hardly use them.
  • Wanna swap blue ones? We both have what the other wants....
  • Cutlery!  Don't get me stated on cutlery.  Now I appreciate that there has to be some variation but I like our cutlery however despite having the brand and cut, the new stuff is markedly different.  I'm going to have to combat lost cutlery by buying my life-times supply of cutlery and keeping the thousands of pieces from one pressing run in the garden shed so that when I loose some it's replaceable with similar items.  THE GARDEN SHED! It's not even a fancy brand dammit... What were they thinking?  Stupid not matching cutlery that my wife likes and won't let me replace even though we didn't have enough for Christmas lunch.... Steak knives... I'm supposed to substitute steak knives for knives... I feel your pain guys!

Luckily, the main users of these, and the ones who wanted blue in the first place, are the assorted females of the species who have no problem with them (or, I should say "it" since one has been chipped beyond use :head:)
