After the old forum software breaking in a way that we were unable to fix, we've migrated the site to a new platform.
Some elements aren't working as we'd hoped - some avatars didn't survive the transition, and we're still having issues with attachments that weren't added as inline images, but we're hoping to have that all sorted out soon.
What an interesting machine - the best parts of a Cremina and Presso combined! Please post some videos soon Sniff
Presso? Sorry I missed that. What makes it presso like? It seems to have everything necessary for good coffee and looks the part. I do like this ES-2 better. May take a bit longer to get a coffee, but the joy is in the journey :thumb: Looking forward to some pics of your new toy in action.
The Presso similarities are open top to allow good control of water temp and simplicity of design, plus manual lever action to control extraction pressure...just my 2c
managed to jury rig it with a G clamp to a verandah post just for the sake of pulling a shot! i suspect this is going to be one awesome little manual lever machine, i ground 14g in the K10 on the same setting as I am using on the Izzo and the very first shot was a nice espresso with good crema and flavour balance! PS re SniffCoffee's comments about it being like a cross between a Cremina and a Presso, its actually the same as a Cremina - a manual lever espresso machine. Although a better comparison is the Caravel as it is also a 'kettle' design and the ES-2 draws much of its inspiration from the Caravel. Presso's are a different animal, they extract a coffee in a similar way to my Baby Faemina (from which i suspect they drew their inspiration).
I saw this and thought caravel meets high school metalwork project. Be interested to know what, if any, advantages this has over caravel. Having never owned a presso, I wondered about the comparison. I guess we all tend to compare against things we know. Thanks for the explanation sniff.
main advantage i can see straight away over the Caravel is better temperature control. the other advantage would be that it takes bigger baskets so a normal shot in one pull. It will also take a triple basket so you can updose if you desire.
Howdy Big G, Your passion for the eclectic world of fine coffee never ceases to amaze me and appears to have no bounds... Thanks for sharing, you've certainly greatly broadened my horizons. Can I ask ? is this machine intended as a fixed bench top setup or a 'travel' take with you device? What does it weigh? :curious Looking forward to a more detailed review and as always more pics please...
Ol Grumpy, Still deciding on the mounting options, its clearly designed to be mounted on a wall and there are some issues with doing what I had planned and making a moveable mount for it. Specifically the sideways torsion when loading the portafilter. Havent checked what it weighs, maybe 2-3 kg. Here is a blurry pic of the 2nd pour on it, 14g, same setting on the K10 as for the Izzo, not a god shot, but not bad for #2.
I have done a wee bit of reading about this and will be really interested to follow your experiences. Wall mounting avoids all those tedious issues with bench height. Very interesting idea Low mass, but claimed to have good temperature stability. Only a five hundred watt element. Looks like it only holds enough water for a couple shots? Standard 58mm? Not sure about a milk thermometer as the temp display. Looks to me like an interesting concept, but still very much a prototype.
very interesting! looks like it has different temp. settings too I would be happy to trade shinny looks for mechanical looks any day if the price was right.
Well price/value is very much a personal matter but if I suggested you could have one Rossa at work, one Rossa at home and still give away another Rossa for Xmas and nearly buy a Mini-grinder with the change that might put it in perspective for you...
